Have to agree. These American/Canadian documentary style programmes always like to hype up the drama a bit too much for my liking.
Still, I take it for what it is and it’s good to watch the old airplanes still doing what they’re designed for after all this time.
No. Mainly because 558 doesn’t have afterburners, or even reheat for that matter. :p
Second episode just about to start now. 😉
Don’t know but I doubt things will grind to a complete halt on May 31st if the target isn’t reached.
They’ve got £155,000 in the bank so that should at least last them a bit longer.
All I’m doing is continuing with my small monthly standing order. Every little helps as they say. 🙂
The latest news-bytes email came through today. Worth a read.
So, did it show ?
Yes it showed up.
Which is obviously more than you did even after your little whinge about it.
Will it REALLY be there ? I can only deal with so much disappointment.
There’s been a lot of it.
Subject to usual weather and serviceability, then yes it will be there.
If you don’t subscribe to Sky or Virgin then you can find Ice Pilots on Freeview channel 38 at 9pm Thurs evenings.
XH558 flies its first official display of the season this weekend at Abingdon.
Hopefully the first of many this year.
Why no Red Arrows with red white and blue smoke?
The Reds are still in Cyprus finalising their display training.
No disrespect to her but I agree with the others.
It’s 2011 so why are the media even reporting this? I’m sure she’s a very capable pilot but why should she come in for any more praise than any of the other pilots? It’s not like women haven’t been flying in the RAF for years already.
I doubt she’d want to be viewed as a special case either tbh, but sadly the media seems to think it’s newsworthy.
I see they used a picture that made it look like she’d just done a wheels up landing into a field though, lol. :p
I cannot believe they didn’t know the 20% VAT wasn’t coming. These things don’t just happen overnight and there would have been notice given. The same with fuel costs. We all know it’s just going to keep going up so any budget should take that into account.
I was hoping there wouldn’t need to be an appeal so soon after the last one, but maybe when they get out flying in May then people will be more willing to donate.
Must only be a matter of days before there’s an official announcement to where the Vulcan is to be based, as they leave Lyneham at the end of this month.
Reading the public section of the VttS forums it appears the engineers have packed all the stuff ready to move, but are still uncertain as to where they’re going! 😮
Interestingly, where there is only a short transit between airshows the main wing-walking team girls ride in the harness.
For longer transits they unstrap and climb down into the cockpit – but this out of sight of the audience.
Moggy
They also unstrap from the harness during the display and sit on the leading edge of the wing. Another time they stand on the fuselage while holding one leg out rearwards, which must be quite distracting for the pilot. :p
Fair play to them. I don’t think I could stand on a wing let alone clamber around the outside of an old biplane in flight. 😮
It wants to be out earning money as i think many are fed up paying for it.
Send it to the states for 2 years then to auz and bring it back after it’s earned some cash in the vast lands across the pond.
It’d be out of engine and airframe life before it got back here! 😮
It’s never going to earn it’s keep especially as they’re not allowed to fly passengers. Not that they’d see much from the inside of a Vulcan anyway. 😀
Air Ministry, can’t really help you other than suggest you sent an email to the VttS and ask. If there has been an error perhaps you’ll get your name on the new plaque that’s due to be printed at the end of February.
It’s about time this old thing ended up on e bay it’s just a money pit.
Ah, that old chestnut. 😉
I always wonder why people suggest grounding it. Yes, like all old aircraft it definitely is a money pit, but it’s one that no-one is forced to donate to unless they want to.
As it happens though there seems to be a lot of old bits of it ending up on ebay recently, so perhaps the complete airframe will end up there one day. :p
