It’s a registered charity and no different to other charities in continually asking for public donations.
If you don’t like it, don’t donate. Simple.

I’m hoping funds are forthcoming though, as it’s been a fantastic (albeit late starting) season this year. 😎

I think that the doubters have missed a vital point. In this modern age, the public at large require a stamp of celebrity and Hollywood glamour before tuning in. Quite honestly, I’d stomach watching Wayne Rooney being flown in a Spitfire, if it meant that more of Joe Public tuned in and absorbed at least some of the story of the Battle of Britain. It is the only way it’s going to happen unfortunately. This evenings program was a damn fine piece of film. Well done to the BBC and all those that took part. Wonderful to see the veterans in the spotlight.

Not sure I’d go as far as watching Wayne Rooney, but I think the BBC got it bang on with Ewan McGregor. Not only was there a deep genuine interest in the subject, but also his (ex) RAF brother added another relevant aspect.

The story was well narrated by both Ewan and Colin and interspersed with Colin’s training from Tiger Moth to Spitfire and the input of the veterans made it all the more enjoyable.

    Very well done BBC.

Airtest, are you sure? I thought it had only done fast taxies so far this year.
I can’t recall where I was on the 10th, but I can honestly say I didn’t see (or hear) it flying.

The weather looks poor in the photos too. I thought the Vixen could only fly under VFR.
Do you have any take-off or landing shots from the day at all?

Will agree that the drop tanks look good though. Looks more ‘complete’ so to speak.

I heard the arrows and vulcan cancelled what was the reason given

The Reds were at Brize and able to fly, but I understand they offered a flypast at Sywell for approx 7.21pm when everyone would have already gone home.

The Vulcan was weathered in at Hurn airport in Bournemouth.
Believe me, it was pea soup for two days and sadly there was no way it was getting out especially under VFR.

Last year at the Bournemouth Airshow they had the ‘hour of power’ to finish the show comprising of the Vulcan, Typhoon and the Reds.

Not too many left before the end. 😀

Anyway, congrats to the VttS team on the first completed display weekend of the season. 😎

Looks like the Vulcan with make it, although it will be operating from Brize Norton and not from Waddington itself.

Let’s not forget that the money is contingent on donations, a fair old amount of which comes from outside of our own little community (enthusiasts in general, not just the board here). Of all the potential schemes out there, I’d guess that the Vulcan is almost unique in this regard. I can’t see any other ‘frames raising nearly so much interest from the paying public at large.

And so, I would fear, no more Vulcan – no more money.

    Regards,
    Frank

Exactly. I wish people would stop this ridiculous notion that the money donated to the Vulcan would automatically be donated to other projects if it were grounded.
    It just wouldn’t happen!

The way some people go on you’d think money was being stolen out of their own pockets instead of being given entirely voluntarily.

    A little update.

Seems the ground runs were done this evening so that’s good news. 😀

    Maybe a flight tomorrow?

Been ground running today – heard it while on the phone to my son at Lyneham.:D

That’s odd, someone on UKAR says ground runs weren’t performed today.

Did your son specifically say it was the Vulcan running? 🙂

I fully expect it to be seen at RIAT and probably before at Yeovilton too.
Things are progressing nicely it seems and I wouldn’t completely write off an appearance at Waddo just yet although it will be tight.
