    Same old same old.

Just like most of the rubbish written in this thread then.

For what it’s worth, I’m one of those who stumps up what they can to help but I don’t just sit back an expect to be spoonfed information like some of you.
No, I actually move my mouse and go visit the VTTS website where there’s been plenty of information written about what is happening over the past few months.

It really isn’t that difficult if you GENUINELY want to know what’s going on.

Sad to say, but in all honesty I really think there’s a core here who genuinely don’t care but just want to bitch and moan.

I’ve not seen hide nor hair of the Vixen over Bournemouth yet this year, and usually it would have been up on test flights by now.

TBH I’m unsure we’ll see it at all this year as it would almost be a certainty at Yeovilton and Bournemouth airshows and it’s not currently listed for either.

I also haven’t seen the old ex Reds Gnat XR537 in the skies since the 2008 B/mth air festival either. πŸ™

Firstly they’d need the support of Airbus and Rolls Royce else it’s going nowhere anyway. Then I think that Β£15m is extremely conservative and it would end up being far more money than that given what a complex beast Concorde is.

And are there even the spares left to keep one flying? What about zero timed engines like the Vulcan needed to get support from Rolls Royce?

In my book it’s a no-goer. Getting one taxiable may be achievable and I wish them good luck, but flying again is just not going to happen imo.

    CAA report released..
    http://www.caa.co.za/resource%20center/accidents%20&%20incid/reports/2009/ZU-BEX.pdf

That only seems to be the interim report that was released a few months ago.

I would say there’s zero chance of 558 appearing at Brunty on Sunday. Unless it’s in model form. πŸ˜€

The waddington website lists it as provisionally booked. 3rd time lucky eh chaps?

It flew on the Saturday in 2008. πŸ˜‰

What’s the latest then? Are all the mods and maintenance done? When do the test flying/permit/DA renewals start?

Mods and maintenance are still ongoing and as such I don’t think there are any firm dates for test flights yet.

Keep an eye on this forum http://www.site.vulcantothesky.org/forums/engineering and it’s threads for photos and news, etc direct from the horses mouth.

Anything confirmed on the display list yet?

I’ve not seen a confirmed/provisional display schedule but would expect one to be posted on the VttS site shortly.

Is she spending the summer at Brize again?

I don’t know but it would make logical sense to use it again if possible imo.

I see a lot of paper pushing & mention of the 14/28 day service. What’s involved in that exactly? Also a lot of *setting up* is talked about.

I don’t know what’s exactly involved other than what is written in the thread. There always seems to be a lot of paperwork to be done, and perhaps the 14/28 day service regards the anti-dets that are carried out.
You sound like you’re in a better position to know about aircraft maintenance than me tbh. πŸ™‚

give it another few months and the begging bowl will be out again…..it will be even slower to fill up because there are a lot of people out there who also see it as emotional blackmail.

Well it seems thery’re going for a year round ‘begging bowl’ now which would probably be a better idea than the last minute panic appeals every year.
Without a major sponsor, they will always need public donations, just like Sally B does.

I do not pretend to know the ins and outs of the whole 558 farce but i can see that it is being mis-managed. I am not alone in this view either.

Granted, you’re not alone in that view. Whether things change this year is anyones guess.

i am not a doomster, i have never been a doomster. having 558 flying is a good thing but lets get real…only charging a small percentage of cost for a show….recipe for administration in any organisation…..

it seems anyone thinking with their head is labled a doomster.

No, there’s one thing saying it’s unsustainable and then another to suggest they should just pack up and go home.

I don’t think anyone is in doubt about how expensive this thing is to run but somehow we’re getting a third season. Not time to pack up just yet. πŸ™‚

Boy, I wish I got paid to work on aircraft before I did any actual work πŸ™‚

In response I point the learned gentleman to Exhibit A: http://www.site.vulcantothesky.org/forums/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=9267 πŸ™‚

First big airshow here was yesterday… minor ones have been going on for the past 3 or 4 weeks..

You don’t live in England then, as the big ones don’t start till the middle of May.

interesting comparison and a good case for them to pack up and go home as the charitable donations are not sustaining the project now, nor will they ever do so.

unsustainable is what i said from day 1.

    plt

So even though it’s not actually costing you a penny, you think they should just give up as it’s unsustainable in your eyes.
Thank goodness myself and other like minded folk don’t think that way and we’re going to see the only airworthy Vulcan at shows again this year. πŸ˜€

Of course, I expect you’ll be turning your back on it in disgust, as in your world it shouldn’t be up there flying anyway. πŸ˜‰

These would be the same tests deemed necessary to help keep XH558 airworthy.

As for no pictures will boil down to security, especially when you consider the Nimrod program is based there.

It will indeed be a sad say when she finally goes, but we are still blessed with a good number of tin triangles in this country, so perhaps attentions would be better turned to ensuring no more slip away as this one is a goner. πŸ™

    Jon

    This tbh.
There’s still a good number of Vulcans being looked after by museums, and by some miracle there’s still one of the type that’s airworthy.:D

603 has provided Vulcans 558 and 655 with parts, including engines in 655’s case, so I prefer to focus on the positive that at least the ‘live’ exhibits can still continue thanks to this aircraft.

How exactly were ‘this useless bloody shower’ as you eloquently put it going to start the winter service before funds were available?

Only now, can they afford to start the work. If they’d had the money it would have probably started ages ago.

As for June being the middle of the display season! Err, reality check. There’s not a lot going on in May apart from Duxford and Southend airshow. Duxford didn’t want them anyway and the smaller shows couldn’t possibly afford a Vulcan display.

My guess is they’ll probably aim for Cosford on the 13th June, which is certainly not in the middle of the season in anyone’s book. πŸ˜€

And I can assure you (and Mr Pleming if he’s bothered to read any of this thread) that I won’t be donating or pledging one more penny to XH558 while the current (mis)management in still in place……

That’s fine, it’s your choice, but do you think the ‘begging bowl’ would suddenly disappear even if new management were in place?
I certainly don’t, unless they just happened to be filthy rich.

XH558 branded begging bowls at the ready……

To be fair, without a major sponsor the ‘begging bowl’ as some like to put it will always be out for donations from the public.
I for one don’t have a problem with it or contributing to help keep the old aircraft flying. At the end of the day, despite whining, you aren’t being forced to donate a penny if you don’t want too.

Have I missed something? Or did I read in Post #2902 –

Now that we have learnt the valuable lessons of 2009, Michael Trotter and I have agreed with VTST’s Board of Trustees that we need a sustainable financial plan in place by the Autumn. This is a vital objective.

I would have thought that a “sustainable financial plan” was absolutely crucial even before anybody ever thought about putting the Tin Triangle back into the air! Prior to this if they were just financially making it up as they went along then it explains the panics and shambles of the last year or so! I wouldn’t “bet the farm” on this lot – let alone contribute!

I agree, but on the flip side, if they’d relied on a sustainable plan they might well have just said it’s no go and ground to a halt years ago.

Despite all the panics and chaos, we’ve had two seasons of a Vulcan flying at airshows so I for one am happy they threw caution to the wind and just lived the dream.
As has been said, it needs to change, but a third season of Vulcan flying without a truly sustainable plan in place can’t be all bad now can it? πŸ™‚

For all the vulcan fans out there who dont yet know, PlanesTv have released the Vulcan Effect DVD. From what i gather theres a bit of a waiting list but its well worth the wait, and for Β£16 + postage the price isnt too bad either. Oh and some of the proceeds go to the vulcan to help keep her in the air =]
I dont know how many copies have sold but if PlanesTv are donating Β£5 to VTTS per dvd the funds will soon stock up.

It’s already in my Xmas stocking. πŸ˜€

I believe that ‘destination Duxford’ might have been part of the terms of the HLF grant.

I think it was more along the lines of being preserved in a museum.
I don’t think Duxford was specifically part of the deal and nothing has been set in stone regarding where 558 ends up.

If TVOC ends up in administration then 558 could end up being sold off as an asset to just about anyone with enough money.
