Watching them, but have been very underwhelmed tbh.

Personally I think the statue looks absolute crap, as does the Angel of the North come to think of it.

I was told a while ago that the repairs were carried out but there were problems with the CAA and the PtF wasn’t renewed.
I’d guess it wont fly until next year now, assuming everything’s been sorted out that is.
The report into the incident has now been released.

Personally I don’t really care where it ends up as all the venues will be too far away for me to visit anyway.
That said, I suppose if it went to Brunty there’s always the chance it might take to the air again in the future. 😀
While the pot of money, expertise and experience is still together, maybe they should look to down size and operate a viable smaller aircraft………. Just like a Mosquito perhaps.
Err, there isn’t a pot of money.
They still need 800,000 just to fly in 2013, and lets face it, without an airframe a Mosquito build isn’t going to exactly be cheap either.
BAe Systems supports a lot of heritage projects -there is no clear reasoning behind the notion that they wouldnt spend money on other projects.
No one has said they wouldn’t. I still doubt we’d have seen a Mosquito flying around though had they not supported the Vulcan. At least VttS had an actual airframe to use. 😀
As for the public money – again there is no evidence to support the notion that people wouldnt support other projects -witness numerous other heritage projects and memorials that have been publically supported.
People are free to donate to any project they feel fit. However there is no evidence to support the notion that people who explicitly donated to the Vulcan will suddenly be donating to other projects instead.
That support could quite well have been used on any number of other heritage projects – a Mosquito being a prime example maybe even another Hurricane for the BBMF.
Why are other heritage projects any more worthy than the Vulcan? Do you not consider the Cold War to be important historically?
I must also have had my eyes closed when the Vulcan famously denied a Mosquito from being funded then. Didn’t even know they had an airframe! :p
Good, keep the tin triangle on the ground and get enthusiasts money directed towards a variety of more sensible projects rather than one huge vanity project
If you think there’s going to suddenly be a load of money being thrown at other projects then you’re sadly deluded.
My current standing order for 558 will probably just get spent on buying a few extra beers every month instead. 😀
Even though I was sceptical about the tour, it sounds like it’s been well received and the fuel fund seems to have been rising steadily since the sortie started so who knows, it might just break even. 🙂
Safely down at Doncaster now though, so that’s it for another season.
