I would have thought, Hurn that if you were a true Vulcan supporter you would try and encourage those of us that might wish to contribute rather than denigrate us. If there is one thing that has put me off supporting the Vulcan more than anything else, it is the attitude of the supporters.

Derek, my opinions are my own made by my own observations. I don’t have any affiliation with TVOC, and I’m not even a club member so don’t add what I say as another excuse not to donate. 😉

I just think that had you really wanted to donate then you would have after RIAT/Farnbrough when it was still fresh in your mind. I’ve seen too many posts from the ‘was just about to donate but…’ brigade and it always seems like they were just looking for an excuse not to.

There’s been times in the past where I’ve wondered if I should cancel my monthly standing order but I realise it’s flying life is not for long and any grievances I have get put to one side when I see it in the air; which I should add is only ever at official displays, if I’m lucky.

It would very remiss if Woodford isn’t on the tour.

Yes you’d think that Woodford would be a venue so perhaps your grievances are a tad premature.

Let me get this right. They do flypasts and stuff but don’t pre-notify them just in case people turn up to see it. That is the most bizarre excuse I’ve ever heard. What on earth is the point then?

Reading one of Barry Masefield’s blogs, it seems that sites are generally asked in advance for permission to flyover, some even request a flyover if the Vulcan is in the area so I don’t think it’s just a case of turn up willy nilly. As mentioned some sites wont want hordes of people descending upon them causing blockages to roads, so in the main it’s kept quiet. Then of course there’s flight routing and no doubt if spotters were at a site waiting for a flypast that didn’t happen due to having to avoid weather then there’d be complaints yet again.

After excellent displays at Fairford and Farnborough, my father and I, both Vulcan sceptics, were tempted to put our hands in our pockets but after this? Nah.

Doesn’t surprise me. There seem to be a hardcore of people who were always just about to donate, but then when something doesn’t go exactly their way find an excuse to keep their hands in their pockets.
Thankfully there still seems to be a hardcore of us who are willing to dip into our pockets regardless to help keep the thing flying so everyone can enjoy (or moan about) it.

I’ll tell you something else, it isn’t just me. There are plenty others that are miffed they didn’t know about this. All it does is taint the perception of the TVOC. Again.

There’s a Jubilee Tour coming up soon where the Vulcan is due to fly around sites over the country. Perhaps Woodford will be one of them, but I imagine it will only be with the sites permission to do so. No doubt more will be announced shortly.

If you actually bothered reading the link I posted you might find it answers some questions.

To me it just seems they are trying to avoid any conflicts with venues and not cause disruption to roads around places it may appear. I would imagine they’ve taken advice on this and not done it just to spite you, but who knows. :p

A further explanation of their reasoning. http://www.vulcantothesky.org/appearances/transit-flights.html

I was tipped of by the father-in-law who heard rumour at a car-boot this morning … a quick google search found reference on a Poynton/Woodford community forum – I’ve no idea how everyone else found out but the Woodford end of the runway was quiet busy!

Well if the end of Woodford’s runway was quite busy due to just a rumour then I can imagine there’d have been a bit of a throng if people actually knew it was coming, which is probably why it wasn’t officially announced.

According to the Vulcan to the Sky’s website they don’t publish routes due to the draw of the aircraft and associated issues with getting public liability insurance, police approval etc.

Yeah, plus it seems to be that routes are only finalised just before the flight to take into account of weather they may need to dodge.

Saying that, I wish the BBMF Lancaster had announced they would be flying directly over my house at under 200ft last Sunday afternoon. Damned inconsiderate that I wasn’t forewarned so that I could have a camera ready. 😉

Saw three Tornado’s and the Lancaster all going home this morning and Hunter Miss Demeanour has literally just blasted out of Hurn on it’s way back to St Athan. 😎

Where had the Vulcan been today ?
Didn’t see it, but they called up Southend at about 5:30pm to say they were
heading back to Doncaster, via Lakenheath. Flying northbound up the coast
    to pass east of Clacton.

The Vulcan had been displaying at Bournemouth Air festival and then on to Shoreham Airshow. The routing may have been to try and avoid the low cloud base that was covering the South today.

    Is that the Duxford one?

    Yes I believe so.

At approx 14.50 the roar of four Merlins was heard as the Lancaster flew directly over my house at around 200 feet. 😀

Seems obvious we wont see it flying this year now. It doesn’t appear to have a permit to fly either. 🙁

Hoping for a Lancaster tomorrow. 😎

Hawker Hunter ‘Miss Demeanour’ was displaying locally around 4pm followed by a quick beat up of the airport before landing. 🙂

Did anyone ever get to the bottom of why there’s such a massive crack in the glass?
