I think the last one flying in Switzerland was HB-RVC which is currently not flying.
Guys,
Does any one have a copy of this Picture ?
Does anyone know which scrapyrad it was in Stafford ( near my mums & I have a boring Weekend ahead 🙂 )
Thanks in Advance
Steve
Steve,
It was scrapped by Hanningfield Metals and taken to Stock in Essex
Have you got some particular reference to the OSD – which might envisage how these might be replaced?
There is no comment on planned replacement as this will depend on what the plan is for 32 Squadron. I could envisage it being privatised and being replaced with a leased civilian fleet
Planned retirement date is currently 2022. So still a while to go
Very good photo here

If it turns up over the next few days, would any of you guys be willing to post some shots of Chipmunk WK585 or does anyone out there have any already?
Thanks to all in advance 🙂
There are a few recent ones here at Shoreham

Is the runway still there? Could they still fly in one of the remaining K3s?
In the past this may have ben possible, the BAC 1-11, VC-10 and Vanguard were flown to Weybridge when there was not much of the runway in existence and the Vulcan was flown to a very disused runway at Newark.
However I very much doubt that there would be the will due to insurance requirements, fire cover etc etc
This thread makes interesting reading as it details why XR808 would have been difficult to deliver by air to Cosford.

I think it would be cheaper to extend the runway at Cosford than try and move a VC-10 by road!
When the plans where being looked at for the K4 tankers there was a great deal of consideration given to moving the airframes by road from Abingdon to Filton rather than doing the limited rebuild to fly. I have a soft spot for the VC10 tanker as I was the Manpower Planning Manager on the K4 programme
Therefore it must be reasonably possible and probably no more challenging than the following
Nimrod from Kemble to Cosford
Victor from Shawbury to Cosford
Valiant from Hendon to Cosford
It does show again the folly of putting the RAFM on a non-airfield site (Cosford was almsot a happy accident)
Unfortunately aircraft preservation developed in an unstructured way in the late 1960’s which is why we have the main collection at Hendon where there are no airfield facilities. When the decision was taken to establish the museum little thought was given to how new exhibits would arrive.
Dismantling and moving large aircraft is fraught with difficulty and is expensive as was seen with the nimrod that was moved to Cosford.
In days gone by the aircraft would have been flown to Cosford but current safety minima preclude this. Perhaps there should have been greater thought to how the aircraft would arrive at Cosford before any statements were made on the preservation plans. I have always doubted that the aircraft would go to Cosford. If the Nimrod could not be flown in then it was unlikely the VC-10 would. For the same reasons I doubt we will see a Tristar being preserved. Pity one of the tankers could not have been sent to Filton before the airfield closed.
The aircraft was with 56 squadron at the time although the CWGC state 151 Squadron http://www.cwgc.org/find-war-dead/casualty/2436057/EREMINSKY,%20LEONID
There is reference to the accident in the National Archives which could contain photos

Was due to go to Africa in 2012
The vast majority arrived by Air
The Valiant was moved by Road from Hendon
If you have a look here http://www.rafmuseum.org.uk/cosford/things-to-see-and-do/on-display.aspx?PageNumber=1
The history of each exhibit should tell you how it arrived at Cosford
Did the USAF ever fly “D”s out of the UK?
They were also at Manston with the 513th
Nice clip here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RbMBSZmU7js
From memory the F86D at NEAM in Sunderland was based at Manston
Except PZ865. 😉
