A bit more on the loss of XP104 from http://www.aviationinmalta.com/MilitaryAviation/AccidentsMilitary/19701979/tabid/653/language/en-US/Default.aspx
06.01.72 W. Wessex HAS.3 Royal Navy XP104 From HMS Blake.
Fire alarm went off, and crew could smell smoke. Pilot chose to land in the sea rather than on land, due to possibility of fire. Flotation bags were inflated allowing crew to escape. Wessex remained afloat for 3 hours, but sank after one bag collapsed. The helicopter was later raised from the sea. The whole incident was photographed by a film unit nearby. This is probably the same unit which was filming an episode of “The Protectors”, and had made use of DC-3 N484F the previous December. (See Planes on Film page.)
Hmm…has anyone got a copy of the first edition of Wrecks & Relics? If I recall correctly, that was published in 1963, so should have a near-contemporary listing of what was at Minworth Metals at that time (1962-63)
I know a man who has I have sent him a pm as he is a regular on here
I don’t think it was Ron Goodwin….

XL563 is the one at Southmoor in Oxfordshire.
The cockpit is completely gutted and when I saw it last year there was no rear fuselage.
The wings were still on the trailer with the forward fuselage on the ground.
Do not think it is a very good candidate for ground running
The Military Vehicle Museum have just erected one on the North East aircraft Museum Site in the last 6 months.
There are certainly calculations for the ring beam to support the hoops and I would imagine that the planning department at Sunderland would have wanted snow loading calculations.
You might be able to find details on the planning application or contact the museum on 091519 0662 and ask for John Stelling who was involved
What ever happend to the last one that was over here i thiink it was G-BLMC if im right it was due to be restored and fly.???

I am sure that a Vampire in bits is one lorry load if the wings are stood on the leading edge either side of the pod. I know that we moved VV217 (an FB5) this way and can remember seeing a T11 on the M25 one Saturday all on one lorry.
