Another busy week has already started
The rest of the Boeing 747 arrived today
The cladding team were back to finish hangar 1
Thanks to Marshall Paving and Keyline the materials arrived for two new footpaths
I would post the photos but they wont upload
Roll on Thursday when the Dove moves to South Yorks along with the spare Bloodhound
More construction works are planned over the winter
Following the wreath laying on Saturday the original members of 607 Squadron assembled for their 60th Anniversary Reunion Dinner in Durham.
Since disbandment in 1957 the squadron have assembled every November for a Reunion Dinner in the North East of England. This reunion is followed by attendance at the Remembrance service at Durham Cathedral and the laying of the wreath at the Squadron Memorial and under the Squadron Standard.
The recently formed 607 General Support Squadron from RAF Leeming have kindly taken over the running of the Association.
Long may the tradition and friendship of the squadron continue.
More moving of exhibits today to ready the Dove for departure
Three fire engines moved temporarily out of hangar 1 along with the whirlwind
Dove now positioned for departure
Just to let everyone know the first section of the 747 arrived today and the rest should be on site by the end of next week – photos to follow
We have now moved our 40′ container which will allow the re-cladding works to the back of Hangar 1 to be completed.
Next will be the move of the chipmunk and its parts into the container out of hangar 1
The spare Bloodhound in the main hangar will be departing before the end of the month to allow access for the installation of new LED roof lighting throughout the main hangar.
Much to rearrange over the winter to return the storage Romney back to a display building and sort out many of the items in Hangar 1, including the Auster and Sioux
If all goes to plan the 747 cockpit section should be on site at NELSAM this evening
Boeing 747 update
Final sectioning at Prestwick is happening this week with delivery planned for next week.
The section will be 18′ wide and 50′ long.
There will be a formal announcement next week once all of the movement consents are in place
I think it is simply a question of cost that East Fortune do not have an RAF Phantom and the lack space to put it indoors. The American Phantom and the Buccaneer are both outside
Steve,
The Remembrance Service is yet to be finalised.
I think it may be on the 11th as the first time in a long time John Stelling is out of the Country.
A number of the other board members are at Durham Cathedral on Sunday 12th for the last service with the original survivors of 607 Squadron.
This will mark 60 years of reunions for the members
Yes it is from the example at Prestwick
The B747 will be with us for quite while
However I think it would be cheaper to bring Cockpit fest on tour to NELSAM.
The plan is for the cockpit to be open next year once some work has been done to make it secure and will Stu finalises his plan
I am sure you will all correct me but I think this is the first one to go on display in this country.
It is ex United & PanAm
In preparation for the arrival of the Boeing 747 cockpit section the Bloodhound missile has been relocated to near the site entrance.
The opportunity was taken to finally mount it onto the launcher that was acquired from Switzerland.
Once the missile has been cleaned and repainted it will be mounted in its launch attitude
Only one on site is WZ767
Try contacting the City of Norwich Aviation Museum as they house his cockpit collection and might have an email address
The Romney sections have been with the museum for a number of years and are out for assessment. They are the last remains of the Bevan Boys Camp in Durham
Depending on the Council they may be erected to form a new workshop/storage area as there are plans to have Hangar 1 & the first Romney back in use for Display
