What’s wrong with bullying ? Makes you grow some backbone and encourages some mental toughness which seems, on occasion, to be a bit lacking.
I think this type of comment is completely unacceptable and the very reason why intelligent knowledge people leave the forum
Shame on you John
I would like to see Mark12 back on board as he has a fantastic knowledge of Historic Aviation, not just Spitfires which he has freely shared in the past.
He is a great loss to the forum along with many others who have left over the years due to the often personal attacks
We all have differing opinions on many issues and should respect the views of others
[QUOTE=stirlingeffort;2302173]Here is another British connection. The pictures were taken in 2004
Moved to Pima Museum in 2012
Whatever happened to Dave T? I hope he’s safe and sound wherever he is
I think he morphed into Jack Ruskin
Some of the confusion may arise from the aircraft being from 543 squadron which was based at RAF Wyton
The belly landing led to the aircraft being written off and retained at the fire school at Manston
According to ASN it was Bentwaters where it displayed http://aviation-safety.net/wikibase/wiki.php?id=94909
This is confirmed by the following https://books.google.co.uk/books?id=LyBQBwAAQBAJ&pg=PA186&lpg=PA186&dq=valiant+wz396&source=bl&ots=5S0C35F1JD&sig=6DaSRabsvPJVcjk5CDJkio8Oajg&hl=en&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwjuvoamg53LAhVHuxQKHbKdA6kQ6AEIRzAH#v=onepage&q=valiant%20wz396&f=false
c/n B575 was allocated G-BAFO and reportedly sent to the UK in 1972 before retuning to AESL in 1973. I have my doubts as to whether it would have been shipped halfway around the world only to be sent back. It is believed to still be in the museum at Chittagong
Perhaps some one on this forum could check it out
I think he may be busy with other things and choosing not be in the thick of things.
He was on the forum observing as recently as the 21st Feb
I am sure his helpful contributions will resume when time allows
Enquired yesterday as to the availability in Washington Tyne & Wear.
It is not in every store, in our area they have it in Gateshead and North Shields
Read it many years ago and recommend it to all
Sad that it coincides with his loss
Just had a real spat with a guy on another blog about the Supermarine 510 VV106 in the hanger is in fact a 517.
Checking my facts, there appears to be several opinions both ways…..who’s right.?
The musum website lists it as the 510 although it has the modified tail which does make it the type 517
Depends on whether you are also including the ones on the range at Spadeadam in Cumbria or just the ones that went to preservation groups
I would imagine that they were silver with yellow bands just like the T10
With the departure of the F-100 -we will be left with all the others outside !
Not quite, the one at NELSAM in Sunderland has been undercover for many years. However it has significant corrosion
This is a huge step forward.
Perhaps the same people at the USAF and USAFM could be asked to look at the situation with the ex-French airframes as I am sure that you would have welcomed the two aircraft that are set to depart from Duxford
I do wonder how many Tornado GR.4s will make it into preservation after the planned retirement in 2019
By 2019 there should be no need to RTP as there will be no fleet to support and no need for the spares.
It would be good if the MOD/Treasury could have a more enlightened approach to disposals.
However I can not see this happening as it is a government department that is pushing for the Hovercraft Disposal at Lee on Solent
