I did 🙂
Keith, its beautiful, I love you, thanks I always wanted to see it like that 😛
With a comment of the BMI Regional ERJ-145 I know the daughter of Mr. Bond (go to school with her) and her Dad has bought the airline so may survive 🙂

Northolt is surrounded by homes and businesses and therefore people would not want fast-jets over London all the time 😉
I’ve heard that they were scrambled to a non-responsive airliner around Heathrow. IMHO I think we should have the QRA at Marham over Coningsby (full-time this is) due to the fact I think London needs a quicker emergency option…..
Really, at this point, even switching to MIG-29Ks would not surprise me! 😀
I WISH!!!!! :diablo::dev2::diablo::dev2::diablo:
I think it looks cooler from behind 😛
Cheap being good as it may allow us to keep a couple of squadrons naval-optimised and allow for the retention of deck-qual’d pilots without impinging on the RAF’s operations for the type…a closer fit to the way the French do things with Rafale.
Plus it gives the RAF back something its lost with the demise of Jag and Harrier i.e short-field/austere deployability. Rafale or Hornet just gives them Typhoon-again capabilities and bring nothing new to the game.
Forgot all about the short field performance aspect 😛 I’m that epic.
It would also almost guarantee the buying of Meteor for the Swedish AF and if we intergrate other weapons (Storm Shadow, Brimstone etc) whos to say that they can’t be sold as a package with the aircraft to countries wanting a cheap(ish) upgrade to their AF’s.

Why Sea Gripen, not Rafale?
I wonder how much it would cost to get EMCAT working & fitted.
Rafale would kill BAe. What would it look like we are going against an indigenous aircraft in Typhoon. Sea Gripen would give us a share of work on future aircraft and if Brazil were to buy in we would have a good aircraft program going. I am a very big supporter of Sea Gripen due to the fact it could be BAe that gets some of the work. If we were to buy about 100 Airframes we would have about 35 for the Navy including 5 for Carrier qualification, 15 for a joint OCU and 50 for the light work like air policing and light strike with the RAF.
Cost would be a lot less than F-35C and possibly Rafale. Also the way in which we would be able to have an exportable airframe makes me like it more everytime I look at it 🙂

A lad in my year at school lives in Saudi and his dad works at Tabuk working on Hawks. He has forever been complaining that the lack of spares on the old ones is very annoying due to the fact that it is making him work weekends. He says this is the best deal the Saudi’s have signed within the last 20 years.

An ex-cadet on our Sqn came round last night, he is AAC – He told me it is Army blokes not RAF Reg blokes who will be on the Lynx
very well thought out.
one thing I noticed is alot of you here try to defer responsibilities elsewhere, for example training done in the US or sharing transports, etc. what happens when everyone gets the same idea.. and say the US cuts down trainers, refuse to cooperate, etc? then what?
Well the US should allow us to put some pilots though carrier qualification and then they are bought back to the UK to qualify on the operational fast jets.
With regards to the FSTA it is of my opinion that other EU nations aren’t needed but it would allow them to operate new tankers whist contacting out their maintenance etc to AirTanker.
I am stuck between leasing SHornet or Rafale but choose SHornet due to the fact that it would stop the argument with regards to us promoting Typhoons major export competitor. Boeing would also be happy due to the fact weapons would be intergrated.
Thinking of replacing current RAF weapons in the future I am thinking that where possible it should be based upon Meteor if possible. This would include the ALARM replacement and also a possible Littoral anti-shiping weapon. I would also look at the possibility of mating Brimstone components to the Meteor package to create a new missile with a lot longer range than Meteor. With a common missile family it would have large export potential.
If conversion of HMS QE to CATOBAR worked out as too expensive I would operate a small number of F-35B and the RAF/FAA would operate F-35C in larger numbers (and if possible the RAF and FAA being independent of each other.) I would also look at the difference in cost between replacing Ocean and the Albions with 2/3 LHD and if possible these would be equipped with F-35B (Or more likely have facilities for but don’t carry.

UK Planning
Well,
Fast Jets
The first thing I would do is integrate the full range of Tornado Air-To-Ground Weaponry onto the Typhoon. Whist this may look expensive it would allow Tornado to be retired early. I would delay our orders for F-35C until 2020 or at least until the HMS Prince of Wales is commissioned and when the carriers enter service lease some Harriers of the U.S. for use to allow HMS Queen Elizabeth to work up. Then I would lease some F/A-18 SHornet to allow the FAA to have its fair share of Fast Jet Flying. This would be followed when F-35 enters service by the transfer of the F/A-18 to the RAF when there are sufficient numbers of F-35 to equip a Carrier Strike Wing. When there are large amounts of F-35 in service the F/A-18’s would be returned to the USA.
Training
Firstly I would make the Tucano replacement program be based upon remanufactured RAF Tucanos to save costs. From here pilots would progress onto Hawk as is currently the case.
With regards to carrier training I think that we should put pilots though the US Navy system to save money.
Helicopter Flying
Helicopter flying with Chinooks and Puma’s should continue. With regards to a Puma replacement in the long term I think that it would be best served with AW139’s. What I would do is replace the Puma’s on a One-For-One basis and also buy a small amount for SAR use (they are already used by the Coastguard and I would not operate it under PFI).
I would also transfer the Naval Lynx fleet to Culdrose therefore concentrating all rotary-wing ASW flying. With this I would also use some for SAR work with the Merlin being available for major incidents. All Commando flying would be done at Yeovilton alongside FAA Fast Jet activities (or I would move it back to Lossie so Lecaurs can remain open). The RAF-to-FAA transfer of Merlins would go ahead as planned).
Maritime Patrol
This is very much an argued matter but in the Short run I would acquire CN-239/295 or ATR-72 ASW Aircraft to furfil this role. In the long run I would look at P-8 or a A320 Derivered Aicraft. These would be operated by the FAA
Transport Aicraft
Depending on Cancelation cost I would cancel A400M. I would then up 99 Squadrons number of aircraft to 12 to cope with increasing demand and the fact that it has a good proven track record. I would also order another 15-20 C-130J to be rolled into the tactical side. This would save costs as we would be operating 2 Platforms not 3.
I would try and get other European countries to buy into FSTA in order to allow cost savings (but the UK would always have first call on its contracted 14 aircraft). This standardisation would mean all overhauls and things would be done at Brize, allowing British business to prosper. With 14 MRTT aircraft replacing 19 or a mix there is the right amount and if needs be some pure cargo A330’s could be purchased second-hand on the civilian market.
I would purchase 2 Global Express and 4-6 Challenger aircraft to replace the BAe146/125’s and the two spare 146’s would be transferred to complement the airlift 146’s recently purchased.
———–
That is everything I can think of that I would change and although not huge savings it would allow more long term capability at a negligible cost.
Kind Regards
IIRC Navy – Look at the Anchor 😛
Great Find Cheers
Will get boring for the pilots only flying between Kandahar and bastion 😛
Will they be equipped for palitised seating???
