Let’s be honest with the UN saying that people have a right to self determination there would actually be a coalition next time round. UK, French and USN carriers would be involved, the Argentinians would be absolutely screwed!!!

I agree with Obi’s comment about the Clyde being streched but personally:

Just have enough space for a telescopic hanger and mount a Phalanx on the front, maybe some mounting points for Starstreak and we are done, add to that maybe a couple of 30mm Orks and your done, a patrol craft that can do the anti piracy and guard ship roles

The thing is the fact that the UK could take out any airbase in Cyprus before it becomes a threat. If they feel threatened they would helo troops onto the base and secure it.

CVF?. That was designed by Thales but at Filton near Bristol….only a few hundred miles from Paris, but, very much on the wrong side on the English Channel for it to be classed a French design.

I’m gonna be a complete ass and be even more specific and say Abbey Wood 😛

I think it would depend on which British pilots, FAA or RAF. Lieutenant Nick Richardson RN and most certainly the very experienced Commander Henry Mitchell RN would have considered the FA2 a very capable BVR Interceptor and Fighter, for quite a time it was also considered by many others to be highly effective, some even regarded it to being the best BVR Fighter in Europe for a time also. Commander Ade Orchard RN was another Harrier pilot that held the FA2’s BVR capabilities in high regard too.

IIRC the radar in Typhoon is based on the radar of the FA2?

GR4s carry ASRAAM now, since early ’11.

Wondering!* RSAF Typhoons have IRS-T integrated (ASRAAM got blocked), but their Tornados have AIM-9 integrated… is it just me or is it somewhat unusual to have two types of WVR missile in service with a modern, huge – and growing, air force such as the RSAF?…

Edit: Come to think of it so do the Luftwaffe and Italian Air Force…

    Hear AMRAAM not ASRAAM XD

AIM-9 yes, AMRAAM no, not got the radar capability (although thinking of it for war with the Russkis they could have been missile trucks guided by F.3s XD

That a GR.1 in the last photo?

Here’s my contribution…an FA.2 with AIM-9’s. (On a side note, I always wished they had somehow utilized the dual AIM-9 rails for an AIM-9/AIM-120 combo thus allowing both missile types and the 30-mm guns to be fitted.)

Originally wingtip Sidewinder rails were planned, that would have done the trick, really wish that had been produced 🙁

I wouldn’t have thought so to be honest, wouldn’t make sense as the Lynx doesn’t have the same kit as an air ambulance for keeping patients alive….

And that’s why, in some respects sadly we started using Cruise Missiles more, although still launched by the mighty Tonka XD :stupid:

The thing is though is that Leuchars isn’t as well placed as Lossiemouth for the QRA. With Lossie being further north it is better placed to deal with the Bears etc that come from that way, they will be able to intercept further out to sea. Also add to that the fact that Lossie has two runways where as Leuchars only has one and therefore if there was a crash or such like we would have no QRA other than Coningsby (Yes I know Coningsby only has one runway and maybe they should be based somewhere else but that’s a different point).

Do F-15’s always fly with a live AIM-9?
