I think the Congress is the biggest hurdle against foreign sales and senate approval is forthcoming.. don’t understimate the power of the Raptor lobby.. ditto for the White House. I also believe that 4 years is a lot of time for countries to decide if they need/can afford the raptor and convince the yanks to sell it.

I’m thinking that maybe Red Force should have been able to kill at least a couple of Blue force Eagles w/c teamed up with F-22s. This is pure speculation on my part not knowing the scenario or the ROE or tactics emplyed but my reasoning os this:

    – Red Force has fighters equipped with capable radar and BVR missiles
    – F-15s are detectable, F-22s are not
    – Red Force employed mass attacks. Statistically, some Red Force fighters should have survived the initial AMRAAM barrage to fire off their own BVR missiles at the F-15s, killing a few.

    just speculation, I know.

I’d pick the FB-23 or B-1R concept before the FB-22. They both would probably have more range and payload cpacity than the FB-22.

I think the FB-22 would be a viable replacement for the F-15E or F-111. However there will be a need for a larger platform to replace the B-52 and B-1s in about a decade’s time.

The raptor may be too capable for its own good. If a limited number of F-22s can enhance the efficiency of legacy platforms like the F-15 and come up with such a dominant performance, convincing the DoD to build more planes becomes a bigger challenge.
