Would be nice if the proposed UK High Speed Rail Link actually ran throughout the UK and not just stop at Manchester or Birmingham as some proposals have it

I’d agree that it’s a pretty poor CGI.

I’ve taken a capture about 1 second after the above one.
The image is set within 2 black frames not just the one as first appears.

The aircraft is within the inner frame, but as can be seen below the flame from the missile extends over the black inner frame and is then cut off by the outer

Doesn’t need to be a strike,

An accident that leaves the runway unusable with a whole load of lifters and tankers sitting on their ramps not going anywhere.

The longest straight bit of taxiway is just 1,000 yards (measured on Google Earth) so I suppose empty Herks could get out to reposition. Not sure whether a C17 can jump into the air on that short a run, and no hope at all for the Voyagers.

Can someone explain why for a ground up designed UAV, it still has a cockpit style layout. Surely there is a much more aerodynamic fuselage shape with the same or greater fuel/payload/avionics capacity ?

It might have been something for the Armed Forces weekend.
In the pics section there are the Red arrows, a single Black coloured Hawk along with the BBMF taken at Turnhouse on Saturday.

If it had been WNW of the location you gave, that would just about put it on a line with the old runway at Turnhouse, though that is pretty rarely used these days.

NNW takes you straight over Edinburgh castle.

Wonder how much Marshalls would charge for that? Probably be cheaper to buy a new CASA C-295 MPA, with the same or better capabilities. It would certainly be a lot cheaper to operate.

I’ve suggested it before, A mix buy of MPA and standard C-295s versions for carrying loads that are already small for a Herc and would look frankly ridiculous in the belly of a Grizzly.

The C295 would also provide a nice step in pilot training in terms of multi engine aircraft up to a Grizzly.

They hadn’t even finished assembling the large crane at Rosyth when I went past a couple of weeks ago.

Went past at the weekend, I can confirm the crane is flipping enormous, but still wasn’t complete. Seeing it above the drydock is really starting to give a sense of scale as to how large these ships will be.

13.50 this afternoon, a pair of US Army or Airforce Blackhawks following the conventional Airliner approach to Runway 06 at Edinburgh airport. Both coming from the South a couple of minutes apart, the first turning onto finals at around 10 miles out, the other at about 12 miles out over flying where I live in the process. Just had time to grab the camera for the second one.
Sorry about the quality, taken through double glazed window

Highland Aviation Museum has an F.1A cockpit section XM169 that is fairly well instrumented- possibly complete.

The pics below were taken reliant on the auto focus which didn’t result in the best of images. Don’t know if they would be of help. The full size images direct from the camera are too big to post here. PM if you are interested in those.

A TV report I saw said the RJ had to brake suddenly to avoid a vehicle…anyway you look at it, it’s the A380 that hit a stopped aircraft.

BTW: the Air France jet looks to have been going a bit fast. Wonder if that is recorded on its FDR?

From a layman’s point of view the first thing that got my attention on the video is the truck passing across the nose of the CRJ.

Which then lead to had this aircraft stopped short of intended location, therefore leaving it’s tail dangling into the taxiway.

    Don’t like Marmite

The Avanti has something about it, I like it but if asked couldn’t explain exactly why.

I would like to know where HMS Ocean is at the moment. I wouldnt mind seeing her out there – especially with 3 or 4 Apache – I know I know they might become targets for others, but they would provide great help for those SAR copters.

RN website has her alongside in Devonport
That was of “6 days ago”.
