I didn’t think it was the best show. Getting a bit samey in terms of the dispay acts. Still not a bad day out though, disappointed the Canberra and Sea Hawk cancelled. Traffic was pretty busy when I joined the queue at 10 and took about half an hour to get in and parked. Was surprised with the queue to collect tickets. I paid at the gate and that queue was moving much quicker. Wouldn’t have been impressed if I was to collect them there.
Regarding people watching from the car park – I went over during the Pitts so I could make a sharp exit! You do get a very different view and a bit more room. Most people I saw did actually have their wristbands on. Some idiot started walking through the field though during the Hawk and it looks like he had a dog. Police tried to use an ineffectual loud haler which couldn’t really be made out over the Hawk!
Presume it’s Scot Airways again? Seen it in previous years and it certainly is a god routine.
Great post and thanks to everyone who made Legends the fantastic weekend it was.
Easy to mumble about this and that not being there etc., it’s very easy to take the amount of work these guys put in foregranted (sp?).
Picture in today’s Daily Record (Scottish rag tabloid!). Appears it is now named “Kiss me Kate”.
Hope no-one minds me opening this up again, but the book I was enquiring about a publisher for is now available, so thanks again for those who gave suggestions.
It’s been published by Pen and Swords (and available from them) and is the memoirs of Donald MacDonnell, CO of 64 Sqn at the start of the BoB. He ended the war in a PoW camp (Stalag Luft III, where he helped in the Wooden Horse escape) where he was hedld for over 4 years. He then went on to serve as Air Attache in Moscow during the Cold War.
The book is his memoirs from 1932 – 58 telling much of the story of his RAF service and is titled “From Dogfight to Diplomacy”.
Just back from holiday and quite shocked by this thread. Never met Steve, but as others have said his posts were always worth reading. Also enjoyed the thread about taking Haydn for the flight in the Rapide. Reminded me of my Dad taking me for a flight in it as well.
My thoughts go out to all of Steve’s family and friends.
I had a flight in the Twin Pin as well last Saturday. Was a fantastic flight in such great weather and fantastic scenery. Much better than the 16 hours in Airbus’s the next day!
I only got one of the after effects of the pyros – if they’d waited five minutes the rain would have done it for them!

I had the same thoughts initially about the hangar and I’d read similar in magazines. It does however you can walk completely around Concorde and view it from every conceivable angle without your movement being restricted by other aircraft and barriers round them.
Overall I thought the Concorde Experience was quite good – but yes the hangar does feel empty. Even more displays round the walls would help improve things. You can get an audio tour with options for getting more technical descriptions of things if that’s what you want.
I left about the same time too. It was going to be another 35 minutes til the Cat was due to arrive. Overheard that RACo’s Hurricane and Mustang turned back around Newcastle because of the weather.
Sounding like a good weekend – shame about the weather forecast!
We don’t get enough B-17 action here in Scotland – unless Sally B has been to East Fortune when I haven’t??
Daz – she came up to Leuchars in 2003. I recall them saying at the time that it was the first trip north of the border!
I phoned today to find out but they were a bit cagey – everything’s weather permitting etc. Said I understood and wouldn’t hold them to it and got a reasonable list including :-
Tiger Moth
Magister
Hurricane
Messerschmitt (which must be the 108)
Catalina
Hurricane
Spitfire
and Mustang.
Can these all operate from East Fortune (presume not the Cat)? If not anyone know where they might be.
I’m going on the Saturday and the wife’s offered to come with me so probably won’t arrange to meet up but will say hello to any familiar faces!
Thanks for the info – definitely be paying a visit some point this week then.
Looking at Sally B’s web-site I see it’s been updated since this morning with several replies to Elly’s letter none of which gave much hope.
I’m another one who’ll be writing to my MP, once known, and will be visting Sally B stand at Duxford on Saturday to join the supporters club. At £25 a year another 1,000 members would cover the cost of insurance being quoted.
