Papa Lima,
could always try and sneak away to East Fortune – it’s their annual display on the Saturday!!! Not quite Legends but better than nothing.
Anyone know of the timescales for it being back in the air. I’ve always manged to miss seeing it fly and it’s listed as a participant for East Fortune. From memory it had been due there before but ended up being replaced by the T-33 – not quite the same!
I can’t remember off hand the details of the Mitchell, but it looked like it was getting a lot of work done when I was there. If no one else posts before I get home from work I’ll check out their visitor guide.

I was there a couple of weeks ago and have to agree – it’s a great museum to visit. The day I was there was the D-Day anniversary and was fortunate to see the Lancaster return (presumably from a fly-by at and event somewhere). Unfortunately the first I knew was when I heard it over head and only got to see it land. You certainly get a different view from their viewing area being well above any aircraft parked outside.
Nice to see the aircraft outside, as my ony comment was that it felt a bit cramped when I was there, particularly for photographs.
Some photos below. I’ll try and post some pictures from the other two museums I visited while I was over later tonight in another thread.
dhfan’s post (No.92) says it all for me, too.
Me too. As someone who posted a negative opinion on the programme, it was certainly not aimed at what was being acheived or those involved in the research and organisation of the dig, more the way in which it was presented.
Sure they’ll be worth waiting for if they’re all to the same quality as that one! Fantastic photo.
Watched it last night and thought it was quite an interesting programme, even if it did come across very amateurish! I reckon it may have been a lot better if it had been recorded and edited as opposed to “live”. Presume they were looking for a slightly different angle on reality TV. Both presenters spent half of their interviews cutting in, never really letting questions being answered properly. Suppose they got them back a bit by cutting in when they doscovered part of the control column.
Ray and Vic were great to listen to, and as others have said I can’t believe how humble they were. Seemed that Ray couldn’t really understand what all the fuss was about.
Can someone confirm what I thought they said about the dig in Germany that it would be used as the basis of a re-build? Or did I just get the wrong end of the stick?
Great pics Ren, thanks for putting them up. Looks great and sounds even better!
Looked a bit warner than it was on Sunday evening – absolutely freezing waiting for her to come in. Heard somewhere else that it was due to be open to the pubblic while at PIK, but having been down that way Saturday and Sunday, didn’t want to go down the road for nothing.
She made it to Prestwick today (almost exactly on time). ATC kindly equested a flyby, but those pics along with my other good ones are on my SLR which is still in the dark ages – notdigital. Not sure how long it’ll take me to finish the film and get it developed!
Here are a couple of pics from my digital, although it has a limited zoom, so not great pics.
From their site it now looks like they’re by-passing Iceland, with a 6pm arrival at Prestwick. No indication as to when it might depart, but is due to land at Basle-Mulhouse-Freiburg on the 8th going via Paris Le-Bourget.
Thanks.
Guess it’s something to do with the restrictions on my work PC. I’ll try from home.
Is it just me or can no-one else get into their site?
Prestwick’s only half an hour down the road so wouldn’t mind checking if they’ve got any definite details.
Wouldn’t mind that either.
Presume you’ve got confused regarding locations. Dundonald is in Ayrshire and there was a collection of cockpits at a garden centre. Think it’s closed now though.
