Saw it last night as well. Very interesting programme.
What really struck me was the depth of the tunnels and the ingenuity of the men. Seeing the excavated site of the third tunnel and just how far down they dug makes you realise quite what an acheivement it was. As to the gathering of materials and how bunks, tables, chairs simply went missing – was quite amazing.
I also watched a Time Team earlier on Discovery (probably quite old). Showed an excavation of a Spit from France. Was also a good programme. Quite moving when they showed them going over with the pilots brother what happened. They showed him a picture believed to have been taken the morning of his last flight and gave them the metal chain from his flying jacket for hanging it up, which they had found.
I’m another one that hasn’t actually been to OW. However, this thread has persuaded me to visit this year. The clash with DX works out quite well, as it’s a bit of a treck to get down, so I can do both in one weekend!!!
I though they were going to put a “glass roof” over the Concorde.
I heard that one as well. Was it not that those bidding for Concorde’s had to provide a suitable environment for storage and display of it. For all that BA made a PR diaster out the retirement, it would be worse if they were responsible for disposing of their waste in any old place!
Got to agree with previous comments re. accessibility at Wroughton. Shame to see such a nice collection as that not regularly open to the public.
Singapore AF, actually
That’s what I get for trying to do two things at once!
Am I right in saying that the last time a A4 appeared at a show was Greenham Common in 1977
Not sure if you’re referring to a flying example. A couple of Malaysian two seaters were in the static at Waddington in 2000. Always thought they were funny looking things!
Sorry,
I know a few people on here don’t like these, but this one has always been my favourite.
Favourite aircraft, favourite scheme!!!
Good to see a through list of UK museums as well. Don’t recall them having done that for a while – unless I’ve missed it.
24th’s OK for me too.
Ken, whereabouts are you. I’m on the south-side, PM me if you want to arrange something, No point us both taking cars through.
Are the restoration areas usually open. I haven’t been for about a year and a half. wouldn’t mind seeing some of the progress.
can I sit in da Spitfire?!?
Wouldn’t say not to that either!!!
Does anybody else have to watch their back when using the web or sending private email from work?
Yes, I’ve got to watch as well. All access to “dodgy sites” gts logged and we get a nice page with our company’s logo telling us the classification for the site!!! We reckon they get so many reported they probably don’t action them.
Fortunately this one is OK as it isn’t classified as Chat like some forums.
Saturday in April sounds OK and could also get a Wednesday off. Might be more interesting seeing some of the work being done. Happy with whatever suits most people.
Would probably be better though to pick a date soon though, especially if it is midweek so people can arrange days off. From experience these things can drag on if you don’t pick a date and stick to it!
Sounds good, except I think it’s shut for just now, while they rearrange everything to get Concorde in the main hangar. Their web-site says it will be shut from 5 Jan – 31 March.
Willing to help out, but not sure what I’d be able to help with!
Had a quick look at the photos I don’t have filed away and came across this one. Don’t think we’ve had any posted in this scheme yet.

What defines low cost though?
Both FlyZoom and Canadian-Affair(using Thomas Cook) have launched what I would define as low-cost flights to Canada for this summer. Not sure if they would be counted.
Enjoyed this thread and the book would definitey be a must for my bookshelves.
I don’t really feel it’s my place to comment not having contributed any of the photos, but, was a charity/foundation not set up after Mark Hanna’s accident? What if some of the proceeds went to that?
