The Mk1 Shackleton chair arrived from Scotland today and was pleasantly surprised to find an aircraft code scribed into the armrest = WB846 P.
There is also a map pocket on the RHS. I though the base was on slider bearings but they appear to be grab points as it is very back heavy.
Anson pics. was covered in day glo vinyl.
Elliott – it came with a provenance that said it was from a North Africa desert campaign Blenheim that was recovered and displayed at Airscene/Blake Hall.
FYI I recently cleaned up a section of Varsity to find it was an Anson port engine cowl to wing outboard panel – if you needed one..
Now that summers over they can have the prop shaft that SWMBO have been using as an umbrella stand for the last months.
ca. 100 -150.
It still sold for £350 plus an additional 29.4% = £455.
Thank you!
The skinning does not continue past the rib so this fits.
The offending rivets have been sorted…
Still badly bent but playing with my dollies is forbidden by SWMBO following tennis elbow solely attributable to aircraft metal adjusting activities…
Well that may be bacause they are not original – The lower rib is tacked in place with soft rivets! They are longer than normal as the panel is badly bent…. It was about a 1/2 the size when it arrived. They will be replaced at a later date… Clecos were not strong enough…
Completely separate to the above discussion – I have a blanking plate that is inspectors stamped as R3 which means it was made by AVRO – but the pennant on it says Victor.
Looking into the Victor tanker conversions and the demise of Handley Page – the conversion were transferred to Hawker Siddeley at Woodford – which is the old Avro factory hence Handley Page item with Avro stamps.
Thank you Rich.. Very much appreciated.
Brian
Thank you Rich. The sliding rails are offset to the RHS and not central and there is a cutout in the front RHS which implies a restriction in situ.
I picked up this chair at Newark at the weekend. From the part number and inspectors stamp I assume it is Shackleton.
I also assume it is Mk 2 ( it is not in the Mk3 parts list) and does not look like any of the pics we have of Mk 1. The seat belt is dated 69.
No armrests. It does have the black leather back cushion with foam insert but they are currently undergoing a repair shop type restoration.
It looks like the Nav seat in Tonys pics. In black cf brown.
From the AP above for the Mk1. only the flight engineer seat was armless.
It came with a Delco fuel booster pump that looks more B17F than Avro.
Long day – long drive – but had enough electrons to get back to Scotch Corner.
Howard – your team were excellent – organization was excellent.
Good day – nice to meet old friends and also find some nice bits of metal.
Thank you.
Thank you Howard.
We may make a break from our Northern hideaway and brave the wide world to see what delectables are on offer on Saturday morning.
Thank you Tony.
