A nice Sakae piston reference on one of (arch enthusiast) Taizo Nakamura’s blog pages:
Well I will be blowed – the picture of the used piston with R2 and Kanji markings etc is virtually identical to the one I have here. Thank you very much Oppama.
Pictures ( hurrah) of them side by side.
Thank to all who have replied.
P&P just been cleaning out the waffles with a dremel brass brush.
There is the slightest hint of a pin head in 5 of the waffles. A number 1 in the centre waffle.
Marking around the edge –
Front edge R 2 and Kanji for front. Below 40-1328.
Other edge
1.17OKG
markings below – obliterated except for an S at the end.
Weight ( without) rings -1170-80 g
Definitely from a damaged machine – gudgeon retaining pin still in one groove. Bottom scraper ring edge broken.
But also lots of chisel marks suggesting enthusiastic liberation.
P.S. the RAF cap badge was on a home made wooden circle and painted with Humbrol red- so nothing authentic – apart from the badge.
I will clean it up when it arrives later today and see if there are any other markings. The RAF badge is a distraction. I cannot find any mention of a Sothebys auction in 1994 as suggested by the label on top.
The waffle pattern head reinforcing is unusual and I can find only one similar – which was being sold as an Ashtray from a Wright engine

Mike the chap had a piece of cable from HMS Hood and I saw he had this as well so both are on their way.
Not many pictures of Japanese aicraft engine parts around for a positive i.d.
A bear/baby with a bucket on its head tripping over a swastika – whilst possibly piddling on it ( common theme – see Snifter).
Please recall that Admiral Prune was also Gibsons Lanc at 106 Sqdn and so not necessarily the one from 617
Gold anodised parts = Junkers Ju88 or Ju87 depending upon where they were found.
Trailer all packed and setting of early tomorrow to traverse the doomsday divide between Cumbria and Cambridge.
Hopefully the weather forecast remains good and Bernard has a sore throat.
See you on Sat and Sun.
My desk is a very nice Air Ministry oak desk with a date of May 1940.
It stays!!
As does the Type 4 USN periscope head glass that is sitting on it that just arrived from overseas…
I originally thought F&L was possibly Folland and they made Beau and Spit parts. But I cannot see any Folland plates for comparison.
Thank you Mr. Sabrejet.
I am making the assumption that from the top two numbers in sequence that they are from the same machine type.
If my memory is correct and they are from Silloth it is unlikely to be Meteor being scrapped so soon after the end of the war.
I found them again as my wife is clearing my desk of all its clutter to take to Flying Legends this weekend.
Thanks for all ideas.
Thanks Tony I was asking the chap about them for a tyre for my AH2184 – as they were bigger I did not look any further.
Not the same as the Spitfire AH2184 that I have here.
Hurricane tail wheels ?
tyre size is 4 x 3.5
Nice but Large Lancaster parts

Blue2 – the Solway NF also has a cracked canopy and I understood that they have been looking for a replacement for a long while too.
