Gary Velasco is making full size B24 replica sides.

Although same panel position – I dont think this is one of his.
It def looks like an original bit of B24 that has been saved from the scrapper. for example – Perspex from the main canopy in upper RHS and the damaged edges are unnecessary in a replica.
Next question is whether the artwork is original
There was a lot of variety on original artwork – with some very good artists coming from Civvy street into the USAAF and RAF. The artwork on the Vargas girl is very good and this is the Esquire artwork from Nov 1944 .
One of the best was Tony Starcer – but his work is mainly on B17’s
It would be nice to see the aircraft code in the top LHS to see if the aircraft date matches with the artwork date.
I am not sure why the fading across the writing does not extend across the artwork at the same position.
Also need to check diameters on the bullet holes, fading of the perspex and burning on the metal edges etc. to make sure.
Answer – I think it may be original but would need a lot of up close checking.
Now now Gents – dont make fun of us locals up north!
Anyway Jimmy Edwards was a Dakota pilot and these Whackoes were definitely being pulled by Halifaxes..
My wife has been to the Borders Regiment museum in the castle (as a Scot I will not cross the drawbridge) – In 1745 too many of us never came back out.
The gent being interviewed is a very helpful chap who has a dead German pilot as a spirit helper.
Anyone noticed that Ebay Germany does not insist that you use paypal!
Well its VARGA inspired Esquire artwork.
There were several B24’s called Achin Back as well as a B29.
In the IWM Photo collection – search under Falklands – several pics of crashed aircraft lying around…

It was a dark day!
Yes I recall there was the wings and booms – I thought the pod was moved and being restored

The D&G Vampire was there in the Autumn!

Agree Bruce- the issue is not the paint colour – it is an air museum getting a group of enthusiasts to paint a Vulcan etc in the open air – which usually means emulsion paint. The issue then is getting Dulux/Crown to match a BS381 C to a living room paint..

Steve – got the time to watch my copy last night.
Overall a very well presented veteran interview study.
Bomber Command is a very broad topic with a great many side streets that could be explored.
I had wanted a programme that presented a balanced review of what Bomber Command undertook. In this I did not have my expectations met.
for example:
You had a voice clip from Harris- that Germany was an experiment for Strategic Bombing. I did not get a conclusion on this.
There was no balance that German aircraft research and production was diverted to Night Fighter and Intercept aircraft. So reduction in 4 engine heavy bomber development with obvious consequences.
There was no comment that a high percentage of aircraft were held back for defence of the Reich or that a high proportion of 88mm guns and men were also held back from the front.
Overall Strategic Bombing was a failed experiment but the resources diverted saved a lot of ground soldier lives which is partly what Harris always wanted.
On Dresden – no mention that it was also a request from Stalin to ease his Eastern Front.
Or that the three great firestorm raids were in effect accidents – the same approach was used as in many other raids – that the specific result was a factor of the buildings and the weather.
Finally no mention that the USAAF copied the approach in Japan with far more devastating results – before the atom bombs.
My conclusion enjoyable but not what I expected.
A waltham CDIA from a B17 ?
I understood that the CDIA was only used in USN aircraft and that the B17 used an Elgin A11.

Apology for repeating what was already known – I was the one who misunderstood. 🙁
Unfortunately I am an aircraft generalist rather than a specialist. So cannot help you with your detailed question.
