Mondariz – I checked the photos last night – sorry cant find a Danish flag either.
The battery my children liked was Azzeville and not Maisy as I had incorrectly remembered. I see that it is on your list already. There is another one close to Azzeville.
Thanks Geoff.
The owner was originally going to hand them over to the local auction house in deepest darkest Cumbria – where I dont think she would get any value/return.
I think she would like to see them go to somewhere where they would be appreciated.
Solway Aviation Museum have expressed an interest.
I think because this is the Med theatre, its Marauders and Liberators and it spans 39 to 45 – it is as you say eclectic and doesn’t have a natural home anywhere.
Kev it does indeed appear to be an Albacore.
Andy thank you for the comments
That leaves the flying boat and the box tail single/twin engined thingy.
Over 400 views and only one comment!
Pay attention at the back!
Most of these prints are original – some are on AM paper. A couple are 70’s reprints from the originals.
What do I suggest the owner does with them?
On the aircraft id.
TheB17 is “Small Fry” 12448.
I am guessing the Misc pics is a Fulmar I dont recognise the Flying Boat and the undercarriage leg looks a bit big for a swordfish.
On the second misc. The B25 and the Swordfish – but what is the box tail single engine aircraft looks HP like but smaller.
The Ju90 B was shot down off Corsica.
the Italian fleet is being shadowed by B26’s on its way back to base after surrender.
Finally compared to other aircraft – the B26 tail turret is a little bit futuristic – dont you think ?
I have to be careful with what we do – given the history of previous passing off of painted original metal.
I was asked to make a tail fin Swastika last year. It was to be painted if possible on a piece of Luftwaffe metal.
I took care to make it similar but not correct enough that it would fool any expert.
On the reason why – I am reminded of Clarkson saying why have a Porsche Boxster when you can save up for a 911. He obviously forgets how hard it is to earn the extra 30k.
For some a replica is all they can afford – especially with high value items such as spade grips and swastika tails.
A few more
The liberator pic is captioned Lib after supply drop over Yugoslavia.
The crashing plane is the Me323 going down.
The pic of the elderly Gents is the pilot of the 323 and the tail gunner
the torpedo is an RAF Marauder with Torpedo.
The others are Christmas cards home…
I have had some help and identified and valued the last items.
Just been passed a pile of photographs – some atatched that might be of interest.
Most are on original papers. The details are written on the back of some.
The Ju 90 was kill 4.
The Italian fleet surrenders etc.
In the British aircraft pics – can you name them..
Thank you Moggy.
It was my children who asked the question – when there were two beaches for UK soldiers, Two for US and one for Canadian – why was the flag distribution not representative – especially near the UK beaches.
Jon – thats cheating!
The undercarriage doors have something planned for them – when I get them back.
Only one phantom part. The rest are Sea Vixen, Victor, Ar 68, Tornado, Hastings, Tiger Moth, and the Merlin is from a Halifax ( if I recall).
Last year we had a nautical theme as this is the Titanic Chief Engineers family home
I am forewarned that next year will have to be a tank.
Andy – no problem
Mondariz – enjoy the history.
My daughter was a bit worried about the militaristic perspectives – but she thoroughly enjoyed popping in and out of Tobruks. She especially liked the Maisy battery.
Whereas the boys liked everything.
The Eperleques battery was the culmination and the one that left them a little bit lost for words.
Andy – I work for a French company – all my colleagues are French.
I visit France on business every month – have done so for the last 15 years. When I die I will go straight to heaven as I have an Air France gold card – so purgatory exempt..
And I dont read the Daily Mail!
We were in Normandy for a fortnight two years ago with the hooligans
Highlights were – Pegasus Bridge, Eperleques and the Maisy Battery near St Mere Eglise.
Followed by Utah Beach and Point d’hoc.
My son liked Dead Mans corner and Carentan – to compare with the scenes on games he had played.
Not so impressed by St Mere Eglise.
Dont be tempted by any militaria at these places as prices are at least 2x….
Also be prepared that The French dont really like us – you will see lots of US, French and Canadian flags. Very few UK flags. Signs for Pegasus Bridge are non existent until 200 m out..
Tony are you trying to tell me that this is not an original Mk1 Spitfire spade grip ?
Desolated now..
Maybe I can try Antiques Roadshow for a second opinion.
Dilemma over – I think this may be the missing door…..
I have found the mail drop leaflets as being dated 1939/40
