Kev – again off topic – a friend of the family (family name Weir) – his father died in the defence of Hong Kong.
Many years later my father was in the Merchant Navy in Hong Kong – in harbour a local fell into the sea alongside the ship. No-one seemed to be doing anything -so my father jumped in and pulled him out. For years after every time one of the fleets ships came into port this local used to come down to see if my father was on board and if he was would come aboard and offer his services for any task in return for being saved years before.
Tiring of this – my father gave him the task of finding Mr Weirs grave in Hong Kong and putting flowers etc.. As far as we know he is still doing it.
There is a lady who comes to Elvington Wings and Wheels – with her daughter ( who is a reenactor).
The lady called Sue was nicknamed Rosie the Rivetter as she was a riveter on the undercarriage nacelles on Lancasters being made at Ringway – ( I think).
Spoke to her two years ago – no contact details.
There was a Youtube video in her honour.
edit found it
In the book War Paint – there is a captured 109 – flown by the 79th FG with similar markings – no bars on the star – but red first fin flash,
That nice, we did not get one for the F4F!!!
I made 60 of the tokens. So there was definitely one for you !
Howard still had some left at the end of the prize giving on the Sunday- so I am sure that you can still get one.
Tony – glad to see that you found your stamps! 😀
Although the part number given is for the actual box not the stuff inside it….[/QUOTE]
Well it is rather a nice box ! With rivets to hold them in place etc….
Sorry – I had assumed that code referred to the contents…
piccie attached.
Anyone with a Wasp/Scout project need them ?
I have a rivet spacing marker that I got from LAS – I use this to space the rivets for drilling.

I have used the stretcher on a U-section and it works well – just have to bend it in at the end.
On the flaring tools – I have a set of punches and flares from Frost restoration. I used them on stainless and alu.
Thanks to everyone for the absolute confirmation.
Interested as to why DH scratched these marks into the metal rather than stamped them – post war austerity or practicality?
I have seen the same scratch marking on Vampire parts.
I occasionally buy on ebay but I dont like to sell – the value is usually only 50% of what it may be worth.
I dispose of items by selling on ebay.
From recent postings
Dependant upon condition and trailer

Vampires ex Millom 800
so what a part Lightning worth ?
Doesn’t sound like it will buy a mini bus and when ebay takes its cut…. You may have better luck on this forum or the cockpitfest disposals forum.
Thank you
Thanks Chaps – Sea Vixen it is.
Pagen thanks – I couldn’t work out where it was being burnt on a vampire or a dove/Devon – so Sea Vixen fits.
On the “owl ” vote – my understanding from my son – is that as first time visitor – he understood fully the cockpits selection. The owls were next to the cockpits.
As to the displays in the Hangar – with the combination of people milling around and the nature of the displays – he did not fully understand that they were also part of the voting. Hence my son put the owls down as it was the only one he saw/understood.
Apologies he is only 9 – but perhaps representative of the general public.
Just sorting through some photographs of the Lanc flypast.
My son was impressed to see them all waving !
TO – can you thank all at NAM for an excellent event. Well organised, friendly clean and safe.
Thanks to everyone who tolerated our youngest hooligan who seemed to get in every cockpit several times.
Thanks to all of you who came by and spoke with us – the interest and comments were appreciated.
We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and now have a tough decision – which cockpit section to make over the winter and bring next year.
