RE: Favourite War Movies / themes

Any very well done WW2 films, like Patton, D-Day, Saving private Ryan, Midway, Great Escape, etc..

Some Vietnam films are worthy, I will get around to seeing Mel Gibson’s new film today, ‘We were Soldiers’.

My favourite theme is the music from ‘633 Squadron’.

    Garry..

Thanks for the advice, but I have been through worse believe me (high school was hell) and I have never sought any advice that I had to pay for, friends were usually enough. I believe what doesn’t kill makes you stronger, but we all still have the Achilles heal I guess.

BTW, the Yak book sounds worthy. Does it have much on the Yak-45? The Yak-45 was a contender (along with the heavy Mig-29) for the Soviet PFI competition in 1970 which eventually went to the T-10, or Su-27 as we now know it.

    Thanks again and cheers, Glenn.

RE: What makes you proud of your country?

As an Aussie now (20 years here from NZ now) I would say our distinctive sporting heritage, wartime history and the ANZAC spirit, which BTW is today, April 25th – ANZAC day. On top of that our scientific know how and cultural diversity and opportunity, as well as having one of the most sought after life stytles in the modern industrialised world. 🙂

Why? This forum was created pretty much for that reason. All non-Aviation related stuff goes here is what the webmaster told us.

RE: Piracy a major concern in SOUTH EAST ASIA.

    Good points!!

There are simple answers though from a sovereignty point of view for any nation in the firing line.

    1. Ocean going patrol vessels. Well armed and equipped for a month’s endurance at a time. These would be deployed far from territorial waters to scout for problems or patrol problem areas, and even escort ships heading in, if the problem gets really bad.

    2. Advanced long range martime airborne recon/patrol, unmanned or manned. The best solution for picking up the bandits and their possible hideouts.

    3. Commercial vessels could be better armed for the sake of self-defence. Not deck guns, but a better armoury for the crew which would come in handy if boarded by thugs bent on doing harm.

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 24-04-02 AT 01:39 PM (GMT)]All the comments have given me a lot of heart and I let out a lot of pent up feelings on Sunday. I felt very low on that day and just didn’t see myself doing much of anything for a while.

However, I feel much better now, not cured of my broken heart but better none the less, and thus I have decided to stick at it. Besides, with all that is happening in the world its hard to stay away for too long and not say something. Cold turkey from the net is not that easy I tell you.

I have come to realise though that certain things are not to be neglected (like the Woman you love), and while I am still single – and unattached – I will make the most of MY free time.

Thanks to all you guys for your kind words. They mean a lot really. 🙂

    Regards, Glenn.

Nothing really Kelly just something in what you said has made me change my mind – a hunch you could say. No big deal really, I mean you live in a house and thats fine. So do I. 🙂
