    Ok, Kabir..

I will go before you. ๐Ÿ™‚

This photo is at my place, taken by a friend I was cooking for that night. Nearly two years old now though.

The second photo is my computer station, from where I spend a lot of my free time and where you guys and girls get all of my stuff from. ๐Ÿ™‚

You did very well, got them all except the third name for the F-22 was one that the Pentagon wanted to use and that was ‘Superstar’.

RE: Favorite weekend activity (keep it clean!)

Nothing special really. I often get two days off a week sometimes three when things are quiet, but not always on the weekend as such. Reading, internet (a lot), trip to the movies, just relaxing and vegging out watching the footy. And until recently, or should I say before the girlfriend left me….well..you figure it out. ๐Ÿ™‚

RE: What is the greatest WWII fighter?

    >Hello everyone, from Down Under in sunny Australia!

Hi mate, Glenn here from the Gold Coast, welcome. ๐Ÿ™‚

This question is always a tough one and can never really be answered quickly, or by just one type, although some types stand out better than others.

In my opinion, on sinlge engined fighters:

All round best allied land-based fighters were the P-51 and the Spitfire, and I am basing this heavily on what the Axis pilots/commanders had to say about them, and I think this gives the best indication of exactly how good they were. They served in virtually all roles and all theatres with distinction.

All round best German fighter I believe was the Fw-190 and the Dora-9 was a beauty, although for the high altitude work the Bf-109 was still king, and the Bf-109F and super-charged G/K were tough fighters.
The super-charged Jumo 213E powered Ta-152H brought real high altitude respectability back to Tank’s craft and by far the ultimate design.

For the Japanese the IJN A6M Zero ruled the roost for a while, and the A6M5c I believe (IIRC) was the ultimate design and heavily armed enough finanly. There were others, but the Japanese didn’t really realise truly top-of-the-line fighters that could truly compete against the best of the Allies in either enough numbers (Ki-84 Hayate) or were too late (Ki-100) to make a difference.

For the Italians, any of the DB-600 series powered monoplanes like the Macchi 205 Veltro were good enough to hold their own against the best of the day if flown by good enough pilots.

For the Russians, the La-5FN and Yak-9 would stand out as their best, and both of these were quite capable against the best the Germans could throw at them.

    Regards, Glenn.

    WWII aviator/aviatrix interests you most?

Any of the German elite, of JG 26 for example. And Kurt Tank, not a fighter pilot but IMO one of the world’s greatest designers. ๐Ÿ™‚

    Squasher,

The original question: “The Mig-15 had a strong resemblance to which WW2 Kurt Tank design?”

    The answer: The Ta-183.

The IA-33 was a post-war project developed & designed in Argentina by Tank and others to fit the centrifugal Nene turbojet engine. The fact that the Mig-15 was flying before work had started on the IA.33 would again suggest that German design had influenced the Soviets right after the war.
