I have seen a site like this ages ago, may have been the same one only older and different then. The CVR audio files are haunting to say the least. 😮

Second thought – why is it flying? Wouldn’t that snow be a problem, or at least a little risky. 😮

Not really KabirT. And on board it would be just as fine. I have always had a high regard for these guys, and their attendants are some of the best and most beautiful people I have known.

    RE: ANSETT LAST FLIGHT

A sad day indeed. Its never nice to see anyone stop flying. I hate to say this but I am somewhat glad I didn’t get in with them 6 years ago, as I would now be out of work! I applied for a position as an FA, but that frigging selection process is tougher than the air force!

Met some VERY nice ladies that day, 15 of the 18 in our section of the stage 2 process were women, and most under 25! 🙂

Sad day indeed, I wish them the best in whatever the future holds. Jim Thorn’s take on this in the next issue of Australian Aviation should be interesting. He is a passionate editor at times.

    Regards, Glenn.

Crash? One of the first things that came to my mind when I saw this monster. It only increases the tragedy of any such event. 🙁
Lets hope they just stay up and come down when they are meant too.

Ja, there is also the new QANTAS budget carrier affiliate, Australian Airlines which is due to launch in September this year. The proposed colour scheme is a mottled burnt earth orange on white reflecting a very Australian feel.

    RE: Tesna/ Airbus deal!

Its coming, its been slow, but ANSETT should be up and running again soon enough, and god do we need it! They are also looking at re-introducing the Frequent Flyer programme, but a far more generous one this time.

    Regards, Glenn.

    RE: TU 156

As far as I can gather no progress had been made by the end of 2000. The Tu-156 was apparently to be made available in several versions. The Tu-156S with NK-89 turbofans running on kerosene/LNG, this been a conversion of the Tu-154B. The Tu-156M, a similar conversion from the Tu-154M, and the Tu-156M2 with NK-94s operating on LNG only.

I am not sure about effeciency but they would be cheaper to run on LNG.

    Regards, Glenn.
