Close enough, its the protoype XSB2D, which i beleive was completed as or converted to the BTD!
Ok a little rummage through my pics and… lets see how you do with this
G-ASEA’s pic is a Gee Bee Model A, think the rules exempts flown since 1939 not built before 1939, and there are other pre ’39 craft on the thread already
Ok just got into San Francisco and got my internet back up and running! Heres a few shots from Yesterday and Saturday at the Planes of Fame Airshow
Day 8. Of to Planes of Fame, Chino CA. Another good museum, with some intresting and rare exhibits
Yep, a friend of ours helped the museum collect it i belive. There was a guy living in at the time!
Yeah its Buster, the rebulit Chief Oshkosh i think.
Day 6 Heres a few more shots here from Pima A+S Museum. Excellent museum, definately requires two days (although i could have spent alot more time there)
.
I couldn’t see any more PBY, 🙁 but there was plenty of ‘junk’ that side of the fence. The next few shots are on on the AMARG grounds or flying into/around Davis-Monthan
Day 5. As already mentioned i’m now in Tucson and yesterday was spent at Pima Air and Space museum
Nice photos of some real aeroplanes. Did you take any in Tucson yesterday.:dev2:
Of course its real aeroplanes, and yes i took one or two pics yesterday infact i filled all 8 gig of my camera cards so i’ve spent most of the night uploading them. anyway its back to the museum to finish up what i missed in a few hours.
Day 4. Well after an early morning get up (even by my standards) my girlfriend and I get to Reagan Airport only to find our flight was cancelled! But the airline managed to switch our flight to one that left from Dulles, but not for some 10 hours! so after getting to Dulles and depositing our bags we where forced to find something to do…. So Back to the Udvar-Hazy it was.:diablo:
Day 3, National Air and Space Udvar-Hazy Center, Dulles International and the back to The Mall again
Spent most of yesterday watchin A-10’s approach Davis-Monthan Az, on a slighlty more modern note there was a C-130, F-16 some RAF Tornado’s and a quartet of eurofighters
Excellent to see the Bartini, although on a technicality its an Ekranolyot, not an ekranoplan! (it can fly outside the ground effect)
As for my own unusual a/c how about:
Lala-1, testbed for the engine/layout for the M-15 Belphegor (An-2 with the tail lopped off!)
or
An-2E, antoher ekranoplan (and another An-2 ‘Type’)
I would have suggested the Bugatti 100, but thats pre war and due to the invasion of france it unfortunately never got a chance to fly
