All but 9 of the 27 GE-powered 777-200 aircraft (G-RAES, G-VII* & G-ZZZ*) will be refitted with the new Thales IFE and new World Traveller and World Traveller Plus seating that can also be found on BA’s 777-300ER fleet. The 9 aircraft that will not be re-fitted are the ones that already have Rockwell Collins AVOD installed. This system can be found on the rest of BA’s RR-powered 777-200ER fleet and there are currently no plans to refit these aircraft with new Recaro seats or Thales IFE.

The pre-refit GE-powered aircraft IFE, also know as the GMIS system, is the old on-loop film and tv selection. The programs will rewind and start again once the longest film finishes. There is now less of a chance of getting onboard one of these aircraft with only only 4 remaining by the end of this month.

The 787’s are planned to replace some of the older 767 aircraft used on mid / long haul routes to begin with.

    Hope this helps!?

Thomson’s fleet of ageing aircraft makes me wonder with what and when will they be replaced.
They are due to replace their 767’s with 787’s when they are finally delivered but what will replace their 757-200WL? especially on journeys to places such as Cape Verde, the 737’s don’t have the range, airport’s too small for anything bigger than a 757’s.

The 757s are being replaced with the 737-800 aircraft. Yes, there will be capacity cuts on certain routes when compared to the 757 but the 738 can pretty much do all the routes the 757 serves at the moment. . . This includes flights to Cape Verde which it is more than capable of doing and does do with other TUI group airlines across Europe.

The small fleet of Airbus A320/1s will be retired from the fleet by the end of Summer 2012. The plan is for most of the 757s that are ending there leases to be retired from the fleet by around 2015 and replaced by the 738.

As for the 767 aircraft once the 787s eventually arrive, those 767 next due with a major check or nearing the end of their lease will be the first to leave the fleet. The first one is expected to leave before the end of 2013. I suspect the ex-TOM 767s will go to other TUI group airlines for a short while just as they have been doing now.

Apparently Jet2 are now in the process of buying/leasing 5 737-800 aircraft from Transavia?

I agree with you about the charges and like you say its the same with all low fare airlines today, and now even some of the scheduled ”full service” airlines are adding them.

As for the seat booking option with baby, if you just choose next step it moves on from the seat selection page without having to choose a seat. There was until recently a clearer option on screen to not choose seats however probably able to con more people into using this service. I do have to admit though, baby’s website/booking process is one of the easiest and clearest to use out of alot of LCC in my opinion.

Thomson Airways operates ex Thomsonfly aircraft in a 2-4-2 configuration and ex First Choice Airways aircraft in a 2-3-2 in economy class.
I’m guessing your flight is from LGW? Then you are most lilely to be on an ex Thomsonfly longhaul operated aircraft. These aircraft are based mainly at LGW and MAN with a couple of the ex FCA fleet also based their for certain routes also, as these are based mainly at their regional airports.

If its Thomson Holidays you have called then they are not 100% going to be right in the information they are giving about the aicraft as many people who come on here may know in the past. However if you really want to give Thomson Airways themselves a call if you don’t mind waiting a long time…

However having seats assigned already as G and H then it almost confirms this to be an ex TOM aircraft, but you could be lucky and be in the last row (9) of premium on an ex FCA plane…

Hope this helps and have great holiday!

Yes. Jet2 fly from EMA on a couple of charter flights but operate no scheduled flights of their own. I believe one of their 737QC aircraft also fly’s their regularly aswell on cargo flights.

Aer Lingus BFS – TFS 3x Weekly

Aer lingus have also announced a 3 times weekly service from BFS from the end of September. This along with the Jet2 weekly flights and the various charter flights will give a large increase on capacity, especially during the winter months.

Also another new route announced within the past couple of weeks from BFS is a 3 times weekly service to Prague with bmibaby .

Some positive expansion from the Northern Ireland airport. Hopefully it with all these flights to tenerife, the route wont become to over capacity leading to one of the airlines dropping out.

Well, one or both airlines may be getting a new livery, but they are not merging the brands so there will be (at this time) no rebranding of the FCA aircraft as Thomson(fly).

No. The combined airlines are now Thomson Airways. First Choice Airways no longer exists as a brand nor does Thomsonfly apart from obviously on the aircraft livery.
It is the travel companies themselves that are still seperate brands however working together under TUI Travel because of the popularity of them both within the UK and Ireland.

    Great shots

But sad new about the two Thomsonfly 767-200s… after they returned from lease from Garuda they went onward to the desert i believe. They’ve been great work horses for Thomson since the 1990s. I loved flying on them, powerfull birds, especially G-BYAA and G-BYAB.

    Are you from the UK?

Try easyjet, Jet2 or bmibaby… their last minute flight bookings are usually at least half the price of that!

This is the new/current Thomson Airways logo shown at the bottom of the page. Its obviously TUI style Thomson but similar to the First Choice Airways logo in the layout style. However this is known to be a temporary logo and while it may be used as the new logo, a slightly modified version of this may be confirmed as the offical launch logo from next May.

    I expect all the aircraft (that are to remain in the fleet) to be painted similar to the new style TUIfly Nordic livery. With the larger ”Thomson” titles on the above and the smaller ”Airways” below it, just like the ”Nordic” titles are shown on this link;

It will be a 737-800 as Thomsonfly are expected to be basing 3x 737-800 aircraft at DSA throughout next summer. Infact DSA is expected to become a full 737-800 base from the end of Feb / beggining of March time next year.
