Makes absolutely no sense at all to replace the 733/735 aircraft with A230 aircraft until they get new aircraft thats why they are not doing this. TUI airlines have a large number of aircraft on order the majority 737NG aircraft. These aircraft are to replace older aircraft such as the 733/735’s, and to bring in a closer fleet commonality within the TUI airline group across Europe. This can be seen already with TUIfly germany as well as Thomsonfly and Jetairfly also having new 737 aircraft deleivered already this year.
As has already been said Thomsonfly and First choice airways will still operate as two seperate airlines until at least the end of the winter 07/08 season. After then for summer 08 the two airlines will be brought together to operate under one AOC of Thomsonfly/Tui travel airlines. As for the livery and uniform’s of the crew all FCA crew will change to the Thomsonfly/TUI uniform unless a new one is revealed by that time which has already been rumoured. As for the aicraft in the fleets themselves i would expect the airbus aircraft from the FCA fleet to be the first to leave to bring in fleet commonality for all the crews here in the UK. It is not yet known how and when the crews will be intergrated at the moment but that i’m sure will be revealed in the next update sometime in october. Finally from the tour operators side once the merger has been complete and the airline intergrated, both Thomson and First choice will continue to operate as two travel and retail brands so we will still be seeing the First choice logo and shops around for a while yet i’m sure.
Would be a shock if they did replace the 757’s with A321’s because Thomas cook uk has got 18 757 aircraft in their fleet whereas Mytravel UK only has 3/4 A321’s and im sure they would rather keep more of what they have got than start to replace them would they not? After all they are a great aircraft for the operations they use them on.
Well my experience of a package holiday has been very different to that, even though the coach journey to your hotel may take longer than if you made your own way there i think that its a much more relaxing way and peace of mind that when you arrive at your destination you havn’t got to be running around looking for the car hire stations or searching for a taxi or hanging about waiting for a packed bus to take you to your hotel. I also find the rep’s to be helpful and more than telling you what to do they explain some of the things that you can do while you their yes sometimes on their behalfes but moslty for inspiration and to help you get the most out of your holiday. They are also on hand at many of the bigger hotels i have stayed in almost all day and when they are not you can contact them over the telephone or they have a couple of set times displayed on a board the next time they will be there.
As for the pre-bookable inflight meals this is now standard with most charter airlines and has been for about 5 years or so. As many people prefer to eat in the airports prior to their flights and the majority of holiday flights from the UK not being much over 3 hours the need for inflights meals is really non-existant. This helps keep the airlines costs down in trying to keep themselves competetive against the low fare carriers hence all the other changes that can be seen today such as the mergers and other cuts… Things are changing weather or not we like the airlines are out there to make money and not waste it. I must say though that the inflight meals i have had at least on Thomsonfly in the past 2 – 3 years have been much improved since the times when they came as standard.
Great detailed report! Great also to see that you got on a Thomsonfly 762 it’s my favorite aircraft to fly on in there fleet, It will be a shame to them leave. But a nice way to finnish of your holiday.
P.s You would’t happen to have got any pics of the cabin at all?
Thanks
Great shots especially the Mytravel and Air Malta takeoff’s!
Just dont like the Doncaster-Alicante route as FR will have competion from TOM who fly this Route.
If they are going to keep on getting New A/C why dont they open routes into Turkey Cyprus Isareal Egypt Greece
Why don’t you like it?
They will be in competition with Thomsonfly from Bournemouth as well and with Bmibaby and Easyjet from East Midlands airport just like they are already with Easyjet on their new spanish routes from Liverpool and Stansted. Perhaps it may bring lower fares from Thomsonfly to help them compete with each other?
All Ryanair flights to tenerife from October are now to TFS.
Have a great trip and flight, cant wait for your report 😀
Aidoair:)
First Choice seat pitch is 28″ (not 28-30″) in line with all short haul charter airlines.
MyTravel UK
Yep sorry a typo mistake it was actually ment to say 28-29″ not 28-20″ but corrected it now.
Listen to this…
I have been offered £15 per person per flight… ie £60 for 2 of us to upgrade to premier… (already paid for extra legroom..) so taking into account i would of been paying £20.00 for the IFE upgrade when i was on board… an extra £40 for free drinks and better service seems a good deal!!!
RickT
Wow i really think that you should take up this offer considering that some people will have payed hundreds of pounds for the extra services!
In another article it says boeing 737-800s will be used on the service along with 757-200s depending on the time of year and actual service.
It will be a 757 operating the flight with the usual 28-29″ seat pitch and green leather seats, as this is the aircraft they have based at Birmingham. They very rarely use their 767’s on shorthaul flights as they are fully booked up into the longhaul schedules and if and when they do it is usually to cover an aircraft or when a new longhual aircraft has arrived just to try out any teetthing troubles it may have. Hope this helps, Have a nice flight and holiday.
I know most code signs for airports, but can one of you tell me what HUX is please? Thanks.

I have been getting Airliner world magazine since 2000/2001 and i have bought it monthly ever since.
I understand with the comments above made about the style of writing and font being different in the latest issue especially in the news section as i think that it would probably work better by keeping it all in the same bold font that has been used previously. However apart from that i still find this latest edition as good a read as ever. I’d also like to say that i really like articles such as the one about the alcohol drink sachets as it shows different aspects of the airline industry and ways in which the airline industry is changing afterall thats what the magazines about isn’t it?
My favourite articles overall though are the ones about UK airlines especially holiday charters such as the one in April about Mytravel and previous ones including Thomas Cook and Thomsonfly. Hopefully there’s more on the way soon:D
Thanks
