I forgot the Mongolian Huns who terrorized large parts of Europe for quite some time. Sure they didn’t leave a permanant legacy in the form of buildings etc, but that was simply because they were a nomadic people…

Huns weren’t Mongolian, they were a proto-Turkic people. But then again, back then, the difference between Turkic and Mongol nomads was very blurry.

The First Mirage F1 were delivered to the Armee de l`air in May 1973 and the first production aircraft entered service with the 30e Escadre at Reims in early 1974; First deliveries of the AJ-37 were in 1971 and First flight of the JA-37 was on 27 Spetember 1974

See, if a fighter was designed in the 1960s does not mean it was a 1960s aircraft By the way the F-4 first flew in 27 May 1958 so it is not a 1960s aircraft according to your terms it should be called a 1950s aircraft;)

nope, it means it was in service by the time it was the 60’s. The F-4 wins because all the other contendors weren’t in service in any air force until the 70s.

last F-4 built were built in 1981 in JAPAN so the last version of F-4 was built in 1981 as F-4EJ 😉 at the same time the last MiG-23MLs were built.
Last American F-4 was built in march 1978 😀

and you’re trying to prove what exactly?

yess.. the 23ML.. not only was it made AFTER the 60’s, you picked the one variant that was developed in the LATE 70’s. we might as well throw in the F-14 :dev2:

But you come close the major proplem and maybe an even answer of this proplem. Why, in spite long and almoust continue history of chinise culture it havent rose in par whit west which nominally looks lacking behind in all fields of culutre and civilization? During the middle ages, Arabian and Chinese cultures were well ahead of European ones, but still it ended up that those areas were ripped of by european orgin imperialists, but not the other way around.

The Arabs certainly were advance and had alot of scientific innovations.. but the Mongols destroyed all that, lots of books were burnt and knowledge lost. If they didn’t do that, perhaps the Europeans would remain behind the Arabs. I dont think they ever recovered from that. After their loss, you had other groups of nomads, the Turks, that established several empires from East Asia to Europe. The most prominent one being the Ottomans who at their peak, controlled most of the Meditteranean..but they came later and by the time they were at their peak, Europe was already rising and exploring the world for resources. And at this time.. the Ming was isolating themselves and had to deal with Mongols under Altan Khan, and began having a tough time with Manchus. They also wasted alot of their treasury oh Zheng He’s voyages, and expensive upgrades to the Great Wall. So both China and the Arab civilization were stagnating when Europe was rising. When the Manchus did take over China..they spent alot of time consolidating and expanding their control.. but nothing like the expansion and economic revolutions made by the Europeans.. by the time the Qing started “modernizing”, the Russians were already coming in from the north and the Brits and French were coming from the South.

But the Viggen first flew in 1967 so I think it should stay in. I still take the F4 because, for all its faults, it was one of the first to catch my imagination and fuel my interest in aviation. It wasn’t at all bad at what it did either The Mirage F1 is a real cracker too and the MiG 23 is just hairy and lairy (in a good, wholesome way) but its still the Phantom for me.

    Phil

that wouldn’t be fair, if you did that, then the F-22 would be an 80’s aircraft :dev2:

Four superb jets of the 60’s :
    – Mirage F1
    – F-4 Phantom
    – Saab Viggen
    – Mig-23
Who is the better ? Twin-engined, but heavy phantom ? single-engined powerful Viggen and Mig-23 ? or slightly underpowered but nimble Mirage F1?
    I open the debate… 😉 😀 😀 😀

you can throw out the Viggen, it didn’t enter serial production until 1971! 😉

but between those 3, I take the F-4. Even though it’s a fugly machine, just like many cars of its days.

    Cost of Living Part 2!!

    Large Soda:

    London (UK) 1.59 pounds
http://www.robertbateman.info/images/London_McDs.JPG <– according to this pic

    Malaysia 2.50RM
http://www.mcdonalds.com.my/knowinus/menu/beverages.asp <– according to official Malaysia McDonald’s site

Min wage in UK = £5.05 (US$8.91) for those over 22
maximum hour a week is 48 according to
    http://money.guardian.co.uk/work/story/0,1456,1311215,00.html
    so..
    £5.05 x 48 x 4.3 (average amount of weeks per month) = £1042 per month

while Malaysian entry level blue collar worker at minimum = 500RM per month
    http://www.pacificbridge.com/Publications/MalaysiaFall01.htm

now divide this down by the cost of a large soda..
    £1042/£1.59 = 655 Large Sodas
    500RM/2.50RM = 200 Large Sodas

so yes.. in the end.. a minimum wage worker in the UK can afford to buy more than 3x the amount of Soda a Malaysian person can buy in their own countries. You can even double the salary of the Malasyian worker (as it said more than 500), and it STILL be LESS than the British guy on minimum wage.

Correction. Maybe India is in a shopping spree, but China isn’t. China has not logged signing a contract for a complete Russian weapons system since the end of 2003. All China does now is collect what she had earlier ordered around 2003, and buying things like engines and transport aircraft. The fact that she has not bought an Su-30 for a while throws into question that she will buy an Su-30 again. The Russians are the ones now bringing their wares to the Chinese door and trying to sell them like the Avon lady. It also puts to light the question whether China has found something better.

hmm.. but haven’t the Chinese started producing better things on their own that would warrant their lost of interest in Russki weapons?
