Thanks, that clears it. I did not know of any sightings of RF-4s with other squadrons than 107 after 1998/1999, hence the theorising. Ah well, the First Law of Franz has been proven again: theories don’t match 🙂

Of the 39(1PRU) Canberras, i think 1 T4 and 2 PR9’s are operational at any given time, the aircraft continuously being rotated through maintenance. Which isn’t all that surprising of course, since the PR9’s tend to fly very long mission and hence quickly reach the number of hours which sends them back to the shop.

Too bad it’s only a handful left now. I loved the ones with 100sqn.

Has this contest grown beyond the Presidential helo order for the Marines? I know both helos are in the running to replace the VH-3s, appearantly a VIP variant of the Osprey is not an option for some incredibly obscure reason, the true nature of which we can only guess at 🙂

While the US101 is of course an Americanised EH101, i’m not so sure whether it is actually less ‘American’ than the S-92. Bell and Lockheed have bought a very large chunk of the export-EH101-pie, including complete airframe construction at Bell’s plant in Texas. On the other hand, a considerable part of S-92 production is in the PRC.

From my own biased point of view, i think the 101 has slightly better papers. Not only has beat the Sikorsky helo in every military and most civil contract-battles so far, i wouldn’t be surprised if the Texas connection pays off again this time. Better yet, with an EH101 order Bell would suddenly have a low-profile almost-off-the-shelf backup for the V-22.
