If you want to see Airtourers, the Air-Britain Classic Fly-In at North Weald 20-21 June is gathering them together to mark their 50th birthday. All UK aircraft invited and 5 already indicated their plans to attend.

Now that the location is sorted I can help only with the Stearman.
This was N75664 c/n 75-5386 which UK based at Effingham Licestershire from1992 until 1997 when it moved to Germany. It was rebuilt and is now registered as OE-AWW (see attached picture from Tannheim last year)

I am sure this was a thread about 18months ago to which I responded.
G-BCRH was finally broken up at North Weald several years ago having arrived from various Kent locations including Lydd. The plan was to restore it but it was found to be beyond restoration due to corrosion and wood rot. Only a few metal fitting were left and taken away, all the wooden parts were burnt/binned.

Ian Blair gave an excellent presentation to Air-Britain Stansted Branch last week about his time in the RAF.
In summary he started off at 16 as an armourer and moved on to become weapons officer flying operations in Iraq and North Africa (Bleheim 1s). During his ops in Egypt he saved his aircraft and crew after the pilot was killed, for which he recieved the DFM.
Having shown the aptitute to fly he was put forward for multi-engined pilot training (in various places in Southern Africa) before returning to the UK. On allocation to a squadron, (106 in South Wales I think) he found it was a Spitfire Squadron, where he opted to stay and after some additional training (on Masters) he stayed on Spitfires for the rest of his time in the RAF.
He served at various places as in the South mainly in a tactical (ground attack/bomber escorts) role leading up to D-Day. The incident in Shetland took place when his squadron was posted there for R & R.
A fine, modest gentlemen who experiences were most interesting to listen to and it was a pleasure to have met him.

Has there been any further progress on this initiative, as when I passed by recently there seemed to be a considerable amount of building work going on on the West Site?
If anyone can give me a contact point for the work it would be most appreciated

The Rebel Air Museum moved to Earls Colne after it left Andrewsfield. After a spell at EC the facility there was required by the leisure centre and much of the material went into store at various locations in Essex.
The driving force behind the RAM (Mr Brett) I believe died a few years ago, so what happened to many of the artifacts I am not sure. The tail section of the Marauder is currently stored in one of the hangars at Earls Colne, having reappeared (to me anyway) there in 2005.

The “abandoned” Beech 18 refered to in RLangham’s post is of course N96240 (formerly G-AYAH), however it is definitely not abandoned.
It was damaged in the gales last winter when the starboard u/c partially failed. The owners I understand are looking for a replacement unit.

Here are a couple of shots as N707JT as it departed from Stansted runway 05. Its a shame it got up so quickly, but it was only going to Basle with 5 on board!
