I believe the US registration is a for a ferry flight within the UK, as the aircraft is to become an instructional airframe, retaining all its current fittings. It will be maintained in a ground running condition, so its immediate future looks secure

One of McQueen’s Stearman was N3188 (75-2599). This aircraft was restored for him in the 70’s and was in a silver and black markings. This aircraft was used to scatter his ashes over Pacific as McQueen considered it to be his favourite aircraft.

3188 was McQueens old school number.

The aircraft has been owned, at least since 2000, by Willis M Allen III and has been part of the Allen Airways Flying Museum, Gillespie Field, El Cajon, Texas. It has also been noted in the Phoenix area where Mr Allen lives

I believe the “Guppy” was having engine runs at Bournemouth earlier this week and wearing a Philippino registration. Heading eastwards?

The Tipsy Nipper first flew on 12.12.57, the Beagle Pup 8.4.67 and Piper J3 Cub first flew in late 1937 and ceased production in 1947, all of which will be the theme types for the Air-Britain Classic Fly-In, at North Weald in June

I suggest you contact the Beagle Pup & Bulldog Owners Club, if you have not done so already. They can be found at http://www.beaglepupandbulldogclub.org/

I am sure somewhere there will be able to advise you from a practical and objective perspective

I noted during a recent visit that there two Beagle 206s still extant, albeit appearing to be in poor condition (and abandoned?), in the south-east corner of Madrid Barajas Airport.

    Perhaps someone could rescue these?

Come on FlyPast, it is your website, give us an answer to the original question about G-FLYP, which does not seemed to have been answered

There is the possibility that this was the last Boxted show as half of the site has changed hands and the new farmer may not grow wheat/corn. However all may not be lost.

The straw in the sandwiches and burgers came “free” and those of us there airside armwaving for two days go straw in places you don’t want to know about!

Here are a few more pictures from a thorougly enjoyable event.

The Stearman in question was registered G-ELAN and was owned by a Mr D J Ashley of London. It very badly damaged in a crash at Rendcombe on 27.12.91.

The damaged airframe was returned to the USA and was subsequently rebuilt and is currently registered as N68994 to an company at Ocala FL. Like many Stearman restorations the amount of original airframe left in the rebuild may be questionable.

Moggy C- To my knowledge this aircraft did not have any connections with Jim Avis

Braintree ATC 158 Sqn were helping at NW on Sunday and it was mainly those cadets who you kindly gave the flights to. Many thanks for that, I know they all appreciated it.

I believe (but am not 100% certain) that 414 Sqn supplied the band and looked after the ATC exhibition “tent”.

Angie keeps her Yak 11 at Lt Gransden and her Yak52 and Yak 50 on her strip at Navestock. All three are regular visitors to North Weald
