Indians don’t use link 16. Both aircraft have to be updated with Indias own ODL data link.
Doesn’t matter if they’re in a hurry or not. With Dassault claiming the past 3 years that the talks are in the final stages etc (*yawn*), it doesn’t look that promising in any case, does it.
At the same time we read claims from “well informed sources” about a soon to be announced Omani EF order. I can’t remember when I first read about this “nearly done deal”.
Could Eurofighter count on Saudi support ? They have this overhauling facility in SA and maybe they don’t have given up on final assembly yet.
This way they could produce the combined orders auf SA, UAE and Oman.
Maybe not that likely, but as salesman I would right now talk to the Saudis about it.
I don’t think we need CFT’s for our Tiffys. I would prefer something simpler, like 1500/2000l fuel tanks.
Some people are in denial mode, when it comes to the priorities in Typhoon development.
I see no issues in admitting that a2a was more important to the consortium members. I would even say that is an advantage in the Indian competition.
Plenty of Flankers in Chinese service and a geography, that allows only fights “at altitude”.
Of course experience tells us such projects allways come on time and budged. :p
The tendency of the IAF to go for heavy fighters makes sense if you think about it. They can’t win the numbers game vs Pakistan + China.
Therefore, they go for quality.
I find it kinda funny to speculate about future variants while in the real world tranche 3B is effectively dead and tranche 3A just some more T2 birds.
When I look in charts from 2001 I miss the integration of Metor, Taurus/Stormshadow, Brimstone and JDAM series of bombs.
No ASM’s identified for integration. No engine update. Oh great, but we are commited to an AESA radar, that unfortunately will be delivered with aircraft that won’t ever get build anyway (T3B).
Best we can hope for is a limited MLU and a wider arry of integrated weapons.
One more newspiece about Tiffy and Japan.

Delays take their toll from smaller buiseness partners.
Bingo, and anyways, whats wrong with the F-35A?
Well, according to the Aussie MoD the affordability part of the great JSF promise…
I have seen many postulate that he sees the F-35 as the deathnell of the European fighter production capability.
And that is wrong in exactly which way ? With Italy and the UK joining the JSF efford, the Tornado replacement (and Panavia GmbH) was dead.
Till today, I see no replacement for it.
Why necro MAKO ? That thing is dead. Somewhat intersting are the drones- but here Dassault is the technological leader in Europe.
Any news about Oman ? Read today the Omanis have indicated interest in F-16’s.
What is the point of bringing the Su-35 into this ? As western type Malaysia operates F-18’s.
In my opinion they should just add more MKM’s and later down the road replace the Hornets with some western type.
There are pictures of Rafales with M2K’s, Tiffies with Tornadoes and lonely Gripens. Somehow I miss pictures of joint operations.
I mean isn’t “joint” the buzzword of at least one and a half decade by now ?
Back in 1991 there where at least CAP’s in mixed formations. 🙁
