    2013 ?
Well, I think after we leased Poland to the US, we have no relatively new F-16’s left.
First step would be to get Saab/Ericson to develop satcom and all the network stuff to replace link 16/32 and integrate it into all assets.

Then we should get an all European Gripen, as standard lightweight fighter.

Replacement of all those remaining Mirage F1, F-16 MLU, MiG’s and F-18 with Rafale, Typhoon or Gripen. (whatever the host nation prefers)

Rafale as standard carrier born fighter.

Realise, that the C-17 isn’t available any longer, and get therfore westernized Antonovs (Ukraine maybe part of our happy empire by 2013 ?!).

Get Neuron or a manned strike fighter off the ground, if UAV technology isn’t matured enough.

Something along those lines, with many new useless jobs in the new formed HQ in Belgium.

I guess it is a near certainty, that the JSF gets it’s numbers cut.

Well, Typhoon beeing a flop… I would think yes, it is a flop if two core nations try to reduce their orders in favour of an US design.

I guess the chances for a Japanese Typhoon are as good as the chances of the UK bailing out of the JSF. :p

As long as the price is low enough that it doesn’t end up in the cut-numbers-increase-unit-cost death spiral it should be fine. Thing is I doubt anybody has decided on a figure that is the tipping point.

That is the biggest risk for the programme in my opinion. The situation is really difficult at the moment. LM wants fixed orders to get a basis for production planning, the partner nations want fixed prices before they order, and nobody wants to make the first step.

Dunno, but in my opinion it is absolutely irrelevant if the JSF outturns a legacy jet in WVR.
The jet is most probably able to fulfill the requirenments. Except one: affordability.
Much more important than 1% more performance here and there is in my opinion the ability of the partner nations to afford the desired numbers.

As much as I would like the EF doing Herbst-manouvers on a regular basis, I think we should spend taxpayer money on more important things.
Have a look at the X-31, which shares the aerodynamical layout of the EF. Guess this gives an impression, what would be possible with the ITP nozzles.
BUT, as I already wrote, there are more important things to finance.
Get the British and Italians to sign up for T3 including some goodies as AESA, Meteor and increased internal fuel capacity.

Well, MiG-29 SMT wouldn’t be that bad. At least, they offer way better a2g capabilities compared to a vanilla 9.12.
Whatever, I think better idea would be Su-25 or even attack helicopters.

In my opinion, the biggest winner would be MiG. Every other aircraft has somehow a homemarket, or some secured orders.
It’s MiG’s last chance to survive.

Earlier version of the Eurofighter was a twin tail. Why did they change it?

During a visit in manching I was told the single tailfin produces less drag and reduces structural weight.

As much as I dislike it, at least the Typhoon programme is in bad shape. The Italians and the British are happy with their backseater position in JSF programme, and Germany/Spain are not that determined either.

As it stands, the JSF camp just wants a cheap Tranche 2+. Some larger external fuel tanks, and the full range of a2g weapons.

The Russians on the other hand got a follow on programme with PAK-FA, from which they can carry over some technology. There is a schedule and systems are selected for development. And they put in the aircraft the best technologies they have at hand.

Now look at the EF. Plenty of wonderful technologies, but absolutely no determination to get them in an operational aircraft. Guess next thing is to cancel Meteor, since AMRAAM D will be integrated into JSF anyway and is most probably comparable in performance.

Since we all know jack about the capabilities of yet not in service radarsets, missiles and EW systems, personal opinion is most probably everything one can write about. :p

Still I fail to understand why they use only 1000lbs and above for CAS. A bit overkill in my opinion.
