In the light of the information about the newly developed composite fan blades offering a sophisticated RCS solution without compromising airflow and eating up precious internal volume, it’s S-ducts which start to look like a poor man’s stealth design to me.

how do you know about the qualities of a composite fan blade vs s ducts?

Brazil/UAE non decision will raise the cost for India.

    http://www.sunday-guardian.com/investigation/rafale-cost-could-soar-into-skies
$1b euro for 11 aircraft per year.

500m euros for 4 aircraft first half of this year. there could be maintainance revenues but bulk of maintaince will come from Snecma/Thales etc.

100m euro flyaway cost at 8 aircraft per is reasonable estimate.

the Brazilians have saw the light that is the decline of the 4th gen and the rise of 5th gen alternatives, especially with revelations of the UK intending to replace their typhoons with F-35s in the future. They will probably wait until they see F-35 being offered, or China and RUssia is willing to export, and what KFX and TFX will result in.

Might be cheaper to buy already upgraded Mirage 2000-5 from Qatar, or 2000-9 from the UAE.

if Qatar sells their Mirages, what will they use?
and UAE sells their Mirages and refuses to buy Rafale..?

Great pic – Caspian Flotilla on Navy Day. Dagestan and Tatarstan, and the two Boyans further down the line.

    why hello there stud.
I have a question for you. Surely these Gepard frigates are nice and what RuN needs but why allocate them to Caspian fleet instead of Pacific or Baltic, etc?
While Caspian Sea demarcation is still an issue… Russia seems to have solved most of the boundaries.. Azerbaijan won’t challenge Russia, Turkmenistan’s navy is impotent, and Kazakhstan is Russia’s “Canada”. perhaps only real issue would be Iran which wants to follow the Soviet-Iran borders but thats more of an issue with Iran and the other ex USSR countries, not really Russia.

Now if it was in the Black Sea Fleet, then RuN would have something that could clearly stop the Drazki

Doesn’t seem to make much sense. Why buy such things in that case?

I’ll bet the RAAF pilots are more proficient on their hornets than the TNI-AU pilots on their flankers. The RAAF has operated their hornets for thirty years.

apparently they didn”t order any missiles. find me a picture of an TNI-AU flanker with a missile. only dumb bombs and rockets you’ll see.

Your link doesn’t say that at all. Besides something that significant would have come out in the Russian media first.

Forgot to mention, he flew the plane shirtless and did not require a tailhook to land. he used his bare hands.

Cool. That Vishnu Som must be doing something right..
To get the chance to fly several different fighters.
His jurnolism must be somewhat objective, so he doesn’t **** off different Manufactors.

in his words.. they are all excellent aircraft.

it should’ve been tählükälidir or tæhlükælidir, no idea why Azeris wanted to mix cyrillic and turkish letters for their new alphabet, just stick with one or the other.

.no former Yugoslav country can afford to run modern AF.

yeah they can. Slovenia has a bigger population, higher GDP, and higher per capita income than Bahrain, which fields three squadrons of fighter jets, two squadron of trainers, and assorted utility helos and cobras.
Slovenia after all is the only successful Yugoslav state.

I would love to hear the outcome of an A2A engagement between the 27’s and the hornets.

Hornets won because Indonesia doesn’t believe in equipping their Flankers with weapons.

Now I think in many ways comparing the JF-17 to the old F-5 is rather unfair, it has modern avionics and a good multi mode pulse-doppler radar. It can handle modern smart munitions and has a BVR capability, I would say a fairer comparison would be the F20 Tiger shark and even then the JF-17 benefits from improvements in microprocessor and display technology giving a more modern cockpit environment and MMI.

its unfair to compare the JF-17 with a light fighter that’s been modernized to stay relevant today, and instead compare it with a fighter that never went into production? ok..
