Greece and Syria issues are different

usually Turkish violations of Greece airspace is because turkey doesn’t agree with its territorial definition

on the other hand Syria’s airspace is a bit more defined.

    or in other words..
    in most cases
Greece violation of airspace – intentional
Syria violation of airspace – accidental

Lets not blow this out of proporsion.
I’ve seen an overlay charts of the RF-4E Phantom flight path.
It was fencing Syrian sea borders, and on its way south its suddenly made an 90 deg turn and proceeded well inside the Syrian Borders before its signal was lost.
I think this was an navigation error.
And the Syrians on that Naval assets probably was on high alert and with high tension nerves.
The RF-4E Phantom was flying on a low altitude level and could easily be mistaken for an Israeli jet..

    very reasonable assessment.

I noticed on Wikipedia that it states that the Luftwaffe Tornados will be retired by 2020. The Phantoms are already being retired this year.

This will leave the Germans with about 140 Eurofighter Typhoons.

    Is this correct?

Seems quite small given Germany’s economic size and political importance.

And will the Typhoons be fully multi-role?

Germany realized its strongest weapons are its banks, not its air force.

Moving an oversized load is not easy, and night time is the best occasion to take one through a city. With the traffic at its minimum, the amount of disruption caused is minimal.

So I do not think that there was any ‘sheer urgency’ involved – just sensible route planning.

don’t mind Pinko, typical illogical thinking. watch out, he’ll try to defend his logic by making fun of your user name.

Sounds like it was ZSU-23 and S-60. Probably navigation error that the plane(s) flew so close to Syria. (at that altitude, if it was a recon flight, it may not have been able to gather much in terms of intelligence)

Not this again! The war has been over for 13 years now, and the same old internet themes keep popping up. Let me guess, you also believe NATO lost about 78 planes there too. A very large % of Serbian air defense was, in fact, destroyed. The rest, was kept out of the fight. You don’t have to destroy something, to render it ineffective.

Clearly, this has no bearing on Syria, because no NATO planes would be flying low enough, just as in Serbia, to be affected by AAA or short-range SAMs. Long-range SAMs, especially the vast majority of Syria’s SAMs which are antiquated, are not likely to be a solution. Large radars and SAM sites emit their position to everyone.

Doesn’t this seem a bit “pathetic”? At least try to keep it civilized, instead of gloating over the (hopefully unlikely) loss of two airmen.

    i was being sarcastic.

Does the Syrian air defence force have a Facebook page? I would very much like to LIKE their post about shooting down the Turkish RF-4.

Keep up the good job guys!

yes, long live Greek Syria friendship..

the new radome paint that goes further back is a big improvement aesthetically, and of course, the lack of those probes all over the front.

    @TR1
Austrian Typhoons feature no defensive system at all, they are just fitted with the chaff/flare dispensers and decoys can be released manually that’s about it.

    @Phaid
Austria intended to buy some AMRAAMs for its Typhoon fleet in the past, but abandoned the plans on cost grounds only.

quite frankly, even J-7s could do the same jobs required by austria.

time for turkey to send in its aerial armada! if the west wants to stay inactive to the syrian situation, turkey will take matters into its own hands.

A mockup doesn’t require a whole SWAT team to guard and express way sealed for the convoy.

A mockup should be easily dismantled and stuffed into a container for transport

The main wing is forged 1 piece with the fuselage, because of whole piece is too large to be stuffed into air lifter or container. It has to be shipped via road.

It’s heading towards North West of China, for static test most likely,

For those showing persistent “PS” syndrome towards everything Chinese, The reality is every PSed stuff in their mouth becomes real in past decade, this time won’t be any exception either 😉

SAC’s F60 finally transforming from model to reality:

    http://www.fyjs.cn/bbs/attachments/Mon_1206/27_194221_182c21e2c8b5fb7.jpg

However, the prototype can be accepted by PLAAF or PLANAF to become J21 or not is still everybody’s guess.

lol wishful thinking. just because its not PS doesn’t mean its a stealth airplane. It could be a model, it could be a trainer, it could be something else. Given the size of the aircraft in comparison to the truck, i’m leaning more towards trainer or another light aircraft.. or a model
