I believe that at yesterday’s Aeroboot Graham had some discussions about a few surplus Dove spares that Newark might have following the recent completion of external work on G-AHRI! 🙂

As for the scheme go for something genuine it cuts out lots of comments and emails!

and a very nice job it looks to 😉 yes its good to be genuine but there are earlier schemes and if we could find a photo that would be great there is a mention of it in air britain of it at turnhouse in 1959 and it says its in a dayglo colour scheme with the m.t.c.a. There is a referance elsewhere to it flying missions on behalf of the ordinance survey photo mapping scotland

I thought she was built for the CAA along with the other machines in the batch which now star at Duxford etc.

    Hi dave
Yes she did serve with the CAA all her life, but as l said there are two other dove’s in this scheme, so to make it something a bit different we are looking for the earlier scheme.
The type shown in the thread by Tim , “but what was the colours”, or we put it in a scheme she never wore like Newarks Dove when she was in “HOUSE COLOURS” that was where the Rolls Royce or Ind Coupe came from as these Dove’s operated in our local area.
There is nothing hard and fast about this yet thats why l’ve posted it on the forum to get some feedback as this will be a project I will be running.
The final paint is a good way off yet as there is much more work to do before we get there, we are at the very beginning and there are other jobs always in need of doing away from the Dove we are looking at a second romney if anybody knows of one lying around, as it would be good to keep the Sea Venom inside .
The wings will be worked on while they are off as the underside is heavilly corroded not deeply but there is a lot of it, l think this is due to it sitting in long grass keeping it moist.
l gave one side a wash yesterday it was thick with moss and lichen. All the markings will be recorded and then she will be paint stripped etched and undercoated it will be then that we need the final scheme.
We need a new/secondhand canopy if anyone knows of one as the one on it has a large hole in it. More wants later 😉

It would be great for her to stay in one piece. the reason i asked about parts is to look after another Comet.

Yes if fate has it that she must be scrapped then every part that will help complete or maintain another aircraft should be used.

could a group not be setup to look after her where she is on the base maybe a quite corner in an area were public could view or visit .
Is the base not due to close and the herc fleet move to Brize soon at which point it may become public property and access not so much of a problem.
lets not lose another wonderful aircraft.
cut first regrate later lets take time to cover all the options first please remember the Beverley and the Vulcan B.1

    regards Dave

As l said on a earlier posting there is other metal on site both steel and aluminium and in smaller sizes that would be moved easier and these have not been touched ,this says to me this was taken for a reason not just scrap,
they cut the chain to get in when there are many other things on site, drag strip, microlights, bike training, lots of things to take to the scrap man, by the way this is not an advert please stay away.
We have made all welcome that have asked to look around and still are but could one of these be the person ?. we still are letting people in that said,
As we would still like to help promote aviation and don’t want the minority to spoil it for the majority

    Any ‘travellers’ in the area?:D

If it was travellers why leave large lumps of other aircraft  l fear this was done with a use in mind, as it was only placed outside a few days before as a local man now has use of the large shed.
As a member of the AVA and personally involved in moving these aircraft l find it hard to beleave these aircaft have be there all this time untouched and now we have started to move them well l’m lost for words.
It would be nice if someone had a touch of guilt and returned it but if not the AVA are on the look out for a boom.
AND I HOPE PEOPLE LEAVE US TO FINISH WHAT WE STARTED WITH NO MORE LOSES 😡

    hi all
I have Vampire XD459/63 from this unit and would like to know if anyone has any pictures of it in service (or after) as the marking had small differances and it would be nice to get it as near as possable to the last years in service . In the later years of service it had a radio mod that saw it loose the two VHF radios and an ARC52 fitted this saw two new aerials fitted

    Hi 668 and THANKS
When you love an aircraft type you love it with a passion and this is a lovely aircraft.
The woodwork is the worst part for aircraft displayed outside as we have said its built over a mould useing straps to form its shape once together this option has gone. And its a complex shape. lucky that a number are displayed inside and as a type it will survive both here in the UK and a number of other other countries including Finland

    Hi topspeed
The cockpit area is the bit made of wood. Beech ply with a balsa sandwich and a bit of spruce thrown in for strength. This runs to an area just behind the air intake where the main spars are attached to bulkhead 4 its after this bulkhead where the engine lives.
the nose cap is alluminium and the gun ports. Built in two halves and fitted out as much as possable before glueing together Hope this helps
