Hello all: In a recent airshow/open day at Monino, celebrating the 75th aniversary of the VTA, among others transport types, the An-22 RA-09344, perfomed a nice flypast, despite its “battered skin”.

    Regards from Spain.

also 1 of them is regularly flown by antonov airlines.

what about a MiG-35 with Thales RBE2 radar. i think it would be good for such customers like India.

While I have seen a radar testbed Tu-134, it had a red stripe, not a blue stripe. The aircraft pictured above is likely one of the conversion/continuation trainers for the Tu-22M and Tu-160. It’s the same general principle behind USAF bomber units employing T-38s as “hacks” as well: your pilots can keep their hours up and not put a lot of hours on multi-million dollar bombers.

i saw similar aircraft in photos from ukrainian museum of aviation. there was written that it is radar testbed. but maybe these are used for another role. i could be mistaken.

what about an-32, DHC-7 (is it’s cargo version ?) , an-140 (cargo version) replacing caribous? i think it’s quite good planes for STOL tactical transport plane role.

I would assume so, but as Ja pointed out, about a decade ago it was being considered by the ADF. Technicaly i think its the closest direct Caribou replacement. Supposedly the STOL performance & weight footprint of the Caribou (particularly on boggy forward airfields in the countrys far north during the wet season) cant be matched by anything else. However given the massive problems with the V-22 programe, i think a C-27J purchase would be far less risky (even if not as capable in certain scenarios)

yes. V-22 is the closest to Caribou in performance. but AN-72 looks like baby globemaster 3 😎 .

Kinda got off Ja’s original post topic didnt we? 😉

this thread is going to be RAAF air transport thread.
