As for the eventual replacement its got to be either C-295 or C-27J, used S360’s, C-212’s etc would be nothing but stopgap solution.
ps Just to really upset everyone, dare i suggest V-22? (Hey if others can suggest An-72’s, y not?)

isn’t V-22 much more expensive than C-295/C-27J/AN-72 (they are planes of similar class) ? even USA don’t want buy them in a large numbers.

The thing I love about these old fighters is that they tried so many different things. Aviation is getting boring – there is nothing out there that makes you go “wow, that’s ingenious!”

Nowadays the most unique thing that happens is when an airforce doesn’t buy F-16’s or MiG-29’s…

agree . today people don’t develop plane like F2Y, XF-85 and a lot of more. except V-22 osprey.

And what would change by that?

we could escort them from one their airfield to another (task which their not doing). not to sit in our airfield ant waking up when their already crossed our border.

i think serbians should scrap MiG-21 , save funds and keep little fleet of MiG-29 operational. buy atack helos : mi-24 or AH-1, buy 3-4 C-27J, buy utility helos (mi-8) .

Really? A few Gripen that the country may afford will change nothing about the security of the NATO. The bigger members are still pleased to find an usefull task for their surplus intercepters at hand. Just at the eastern or southern borders of NATO you may found from time to time realistic intercepts for different reasons at all.

i think , if we have our own planes we wuold escort other planes in international waters near our border ,not just intercept them, when they flying in our airspace like pilots, which are patroling now.

Index, are you aware who is chief-of-army in our country? You can educate those men from infantry all the while, but, still, for them old german M113 is more important then air policing in their own country! 😡 Besides, now we have provisional reconstruction team in Afghanistan, it eats all our money, but it doesn’t matter, because we have already reconstructed everything in Lithuania! :diablo:

but, i think, few gripens is more worth money than new government b-737 , we want to buy. i thought that the su-27 accident was good lesson for government.
