I did download and read parts of it. Let me take this occasion to thanks you. It is a good and very informative read.
    Thanks.

    You’re welcome.

I have shared that book in basically all military related forum i visited except secretprojects. All i want to see is someone really make good use to it, i want to see more excel spreadsheet or simulations made. But so far none have come up with a feedback. Im the only one so far.. as far as i see making something out of that book.

    —–

perhaps it’s because that book doesn’t really compare X vs Y missile makes it unpopular.

I didn’t say that. I said if the missile fails to hit in the first attempt then it cannot pull of a few Gs and chase down the target again. Did you see this video? I do not have any other video handy, but the point that I am trying to make is well reflected in this video. If your missile fails to hit in its first attempt, it cannot hit that target again, ever

    Then shoot one more time.

Fair enough, but in that case you have to be the end user. How else can you get the variables for the equation? If you don’t mind sharing, I would like to see the math. Thanks.

Where were you when i posted Fleeman’s tactical missile design 2nd Edition book ? You can work the math yourself.

    Download links

On subject of missile maneuverability. Based on the book I make myself a small spreadsheet for calculating the body buildup force for the missile. The variables and AOA for the missile are based on AMRAAM simulation result did by someone else.

    http://www.mediafire.com/download/2uz1qmg2qumalih/msslmaneuverability.xlsx

Let’s see what you can make up from that book.

That’s how i do the math for missile design.

So.. sort of rear facing radar or ECM ?

I realize their publicity material states that the R-60 can pull 40-60 G but it has never been proved. Anyway that can be said about advertisement made by any defense prime.

That said, even if the R-60 is fired from 10-20 Kms it still gives the enemy fighter enough time to carry out a hard turn and evade the R-60. Thereafter, it becomes extremely difficult for the R-60 to re establish a lock on and chase the target again. Even if it does establish a lock on, it is travelling at speeds of Mach 3 and above. Naturally at that speed it will run out of fuel before it reaches the target.

That’s the reason why MiG-31 carry 4 of these.

and there are no missiles ever, that use rocket propulsion that not run out of fuel before reaching target. Thus why we have concept of firing envelope.

Please note ,this applies not just for the R-60, but for its successor the Vympel R-73 and any other Air-to-Air missile or Surface to Air missiles fired by systems like PAC 3 or S-400. Plz do not let their publicity material convince you otherwise.

I can do my maths to get what i need. If you think i rely only on publications, then you are mistaken.

If the R-60 or any other air-to-air missile is launched and it fails to hit the target, chances are that it cannot pull high G manoeuvres and re engage the hostile aircraft again, because by then the R-60 will run out of fuel.

R-60 can pull over 40-60G. Plus if it’s launched it would mean the target is well within visual range (some 10-20 Km at most) and can be as low as 300 m, of typical gunnery range. At such distance the R-60 is lethal and difficult to evade. Unless countermeasure is deployed (flare)

during the 80s it was said that the mig-31 can launch 4 missiles at 4 different targets so lets say 4 mig-31s are intercepting 2 attackers or fighter-bombers , can they launch 8 missiles at every target maximizing the chances of a hit ? since the SARH missiles had such a poor hit rate
( please consider this a 80s scenario with the basic R-33 model)

Well ESA illuminator such as Zaslon is apt to have higher hit rate as it can steer beam electronically. Thus it can provide enough illumination time for the R-33’s

Is F-35 not new enough ?

it’s kind of unfortunate though that USN killed the NATF.

Can someone explain why we see sometimes Foxhounds toting R-60 ?

I mean it`s a diametrically opposed weapon compared to Foxhounds main armament (range, guidance etc)

I dont think it`s for defence either since it has such a short range and on the merge any fighter would run circles around a MiG-31

It is for defense. The R-60 can pull very high G maneuver. It will do the turning for the MiG.

    What is that ?

Cross eye jamming or “artificial glint” is a self protection method, developed to counter monopulse radar. It’s implementation involve having two jammers at the widest area of your platform (Like wing) working in tight harmony. One jammer will emit amplified pulse of the victim radar while another one emit same signal as the first BUT with 180 degrees phase inversion.

That will cause error in angle measurement of the victim radar. Measured in meters or wingspan.

Su-27 is long known to have Sorbitsya. which were happen to be in pair and mounted at wingtip. Carlo Kopp suggest that it does support X-eye but discussion at folks in secretprojects are inconclusive. Thus why im asking. Maybe our Russian speaking member can give better insight.

Im sorry I forgot that stealth doesn’t work Russia stronq! The Su-34s dont even need missiles. The Amraams bounce off the Russians fuselage. They alk achieve gun kills. Did I get it right now? 🙂

Are you even try to make a point ?

    My question too.

Im curious on the L005 Sorbitsya. Did it support Cross eye jamming mode ?

Browsed secret project forum for that but so far not conclusive.

How much the funds and efforts required to mount such attack ?

If you need over 100++ rafales, hundreds of TLAM from Ohios and B-52’s…Just to attack Kalinigrad, The defenders at Kalinigrad already have a good bargain. While you’re losing huge amounts of expenditure just to move those strike force. and after the strike is done.. and all S-300PM battery destroyed..then what to gain from that ?

The point of A2D2 is to force you to use large force which you probably won’t want to pay. Thus seeking other alternative to settle the conflict.
