I know this is extremely simplified view but that works out to be 52000 USD per mission.

    Does it looks reasonable ?

Hmm for me it’s very reasonable for its impact (putting gov back to offensive, and force peace treaty/truce)

Apparently MOD is ordering land based Redut-Poliment complex.

so.. more Vityaz or entirely new system ? bit weird i think given that Vityaz and Poliment-redut basically use 9M96 missiles.

Welp, so much for total withdrawing. Looks like they are finally sending the helo assets we have been calling for from the start. Makes sense since most of the action around Palmyra has been Mi-24s.

Interesting thing is almost a week ago, a user @ Otvaga forum posted that Mi-28 crews were being really actively trained in night operations…

    so basically.. replacing Su-34 with Ka-52 and Mi-24 with Mi-28 😀 ?

I found some nice cross sectional image of Russian AAM’s like R-77 and R-33..like this one from testpilot.ru

    http://www.testpilot.ru/russia/vympel/r/33/images/r33_s.jpg

you guys think that cross section image are good to scale ? I’m thinking of measuring dimensions of the rocket motor of the missile based on the image.

After Syria this is hardly a surprise but Su-35S’ that are doing combat patrol/QRA has now received R-77-1. Now, where is that R-37M…

    Soon maybe 😀

    Does this seem correct?

The performance characteristics of the aircraft :
    The crew – 1 person

Looks reasonable. and the empty weight.. well really reminds me of the Su-37.

It has been a long time since I was last briefed on active-cancellation technology, but I don’t recall any mention of frequency dependance.

interesting. Nonetheless i picked up a translated french radar book titled “Air and Spaceborne Radar : an Introduction” It has mention on Active cancellation at page 441 (chapter 23) and it clearly state that it can only be used at low frequency like say 100 Mhz, and only in certain direction. Though it does not said why.

For higher frequency however the book also mention a method called “Signature modulation” Which is the opposite of the active cancellation. This method however requires “smart skin” or conformal array.

    In other words, active cancellation?

    Nope.

Russian 5G Fighter to Obtain Artificial Brains

Sure thing.. this can be very useful, especially in EW fields.

The US now plan to induce AI into their EW sets..thus allow real time analysis of emitter and “instant” generation of jamming modes. Possibly without need to overwork EW officer.

Perhaps same can be done to radar, actively generate PRF’s and other transmit parameters according to situation to retain maximum possible instrumental range and to adapt to jamming.

Would love to see that little bird mature and operational. Though yes.. Yakovlev are pretty much monopolizing the field in Russia.

Cool. seeing those limber holes around the missile superstructure really reminds me of the Russian Kalmar (Delta III).

The soviets I understand had a lot of nuclear tipped SAMs on their warships

How were they more effective ( in theory atleast) from non-nuclear tipped SAMs ?

Neutron flux, thermal pulse and air blast. They can go many hundred meters farther than any conventional SAM warhead explosion can be.

The J/APG-1 was supposed to have serious problems when it was new – 15 years ago. If what I heard is correct, they were fixed, & the radars in the F-2 are now getting a major upgrade which turns them into the J/APG-2.

Hmm not really i think. Japanese engineer went simple in J/APG-1. Their target is mainly cost minimization and lower risk.

The following outlines development of US insight of Japan J/APG-1 development :

But then maybe it would change right now.

The wiki page indicates that they want the LSRB to be capable of day time raids, and likely self escort. The thing has to have.

    A. Some form of on board jamming like the APG-81.

    B. Some form of missile capability.

    C. Maybe future DIRCM capability.

Well clearly it will have missile capability (A2G) spamming JASSM’s or tacttom.. but for AMRAAM or other A2A.. kinda doubt it. The best “self escort” weapon it has would be those EW suites and perhaps lasers.

radars, maybe they’ll go with AESA version of the APQ-181. and geared toward A2G role..it would not need multi-kilowatt power..perhaps as low as 100 watt max would do. It would be very difficult to pick by ESM.
