It seems the Russians may have already paid the price for Putin’s entry in the Syrian conflict with the recent airliner crash in Egypt, seems too much of a coincidence to me. If that does turn out to be true, how soon before we see Tu-95s carpet bombing ISIS territory and Spetznaz mopping up the rest?

Probably from Yefim Gordon’s book.

I checked my copy of “Famous Russian Aircraft : MiG-31” and there is, “destruction of low altitude target by MiG-31 in October 1978 which was spotted by US Spy sat” However no mention of what missile were used.

Regarding the R-33’s.. The Yefim Gordon’s book mentioned an event on August 28, 1978 where a MiG-31 successfully destroyed 4 aerial drones with 4 missile salvo in an exercise. That one could be R-33’s.
