…to be precise, Germans are roughly 2.5 times less guilty.. 😉
No, this is till confusing you. Oil is the backbone of the world economy, we are all dependent upon it thus singling out the US is americphobia on your part.
For me, providing a proven and published figure about an average American burning 2.5 times as much oil than an average German is a product of PURE rational thought.
Whether the reasons are SUVs, distances, power plants, damaged US pipelines or weird lust of your citizens to spill oil down the drain with a wide grin is insignificant, this is an undeniable evidence. The remarks about americaphobia are a very cheap excuse..
No Americaphobia is exactly the reason. The rational fact is that the entire world economy is oil dependent as a result of human materialism. The singling out of America is pointless and irrelevant, Germans are just as Guilty as Americans.
Intelligence and knowledge are totally different thing. If you insult my intelligence based on totally irrelevant reason, expect exactly as unlogical retaliation.
Your reasoning about Canadians is only partially correct. Canadians do not have to live among the snow and ice, right, but still they have to travel through. A company from Quebec has much less nearby business opportunities than a company from Baltimore.. Locations like Whitehorse or Yellowknife need to be supplied exactly the same way like a comparable town in the States, but the amount of fuel required is uncomparably higher because there are no nearby locations to import the goods from. I’d say that an average Canadian needs to travel more than an average American.
Plus, the geographic location of Canadian cities results in greater energetic demands than comparable Ameican cities have, especially heating.
All a human being actually needs is a tree to sleep in and a sharp stick with which to hunt. The fact is that as a species we have created a highly advanced series of civilizations and technologies all of which are little more than desires rather than necessities. It is just childish to suggest that one nation has a greater level of guilt for materialism when almost the whole of human kind has become dependent upon it. The endless ranting about American guilt in this area is not a product of rational thought about the flaws of our species but a venting of Americaphobia.
I haven’t povided absolute figures in total. These are figures PER CAPITA. US is less industrialized per capita than many smaller European countries but they still consume roughly twice as much oil.
I repeat, Worlds largest economy = worlds highest oil consumption.
The link not being with industrial output in the classic sense of the phrase (China’s case is different) but economic activity in general.
What is pathetic about how this thread is going is that it is solely aimed at the US, go and check out how China and India’s oil consumption is going.
No the reason is it’s actually needed. Putting F-15s up against a late model Flanker would be iffy at best. Why would the USAF want to do that?
Sferrin, you are clearly an articulate and well educated individual, as such I intend this as politely as I can, since when did ‘need’ have anything to do with the survival of US procurement projects………..especially in the Clinton years.;)
Lockheed, the DoD and the USAF have very carefully crafted the image of the F-22 to insure its survival, and they have done so with great success. That image is not false, but it is well cared for.
The very fact that SM-3 is becoming the missile it is rather suggests that the USN did well to stay way from Patriot.;)
Actually Aegis is only customized for Japan under the designation ‘SM-3’.
Its original purpose was to target tactical ballistic missiles i.e. Scuds and variants used by states like N.Korea, Iran and Syria. Now it is being evolved to target medium range strategic ballistic missiles also, like N. Korean missile types.
It is unclear why the Aegis development was done in parallel to the Patriot series of BMD, regardless of Aegis being a ship based system. The modification of the Patriot series for naval use appears plausible.
The significant difference between Aegis and Patriot-3 is that Aegis has a mecahnism in which the top-most kill vehicle separates from the main fuselage and is guided via infrared seekers while being maneuvered by thrust vectors.
You seem somewhat confused, AEGIS is the radar/combat data and control system used by current US and Japanese DDG’s. SM-3 is the missile and is rapidly entering a different league to the one patriot is in.
I think that goes with what it is as much as anything. Meaning it’s the latest and greatest US fighter so of course it’s going to get the attention. It would be kinda odd if it were otherwise.
Coomanche, Crusader, B2, DDG-X, Sea Wolf, etc etc, they all have one thing in common, cold war legacy projects either canceled outright or to the point of single figures, and yet despite massive cuts the Raptor program has survived. The reason being that the powers that be have worked tirelessly to give it the very reputation that you have attributed to it above.;)
Yeah but I don’t think the US government is telling Hollywood which one to use. Pretty much whatever is the latest and greatest is what you’ll see. Not much point in showing an F-4 shooting at the Hulk. 🙂
True, but the Lockheed, USAF, DoD triad has done a very effective job of selling the type.;)
Er…
…. anyone got an artist’s impression of the P1154?
Yep, difficult to believe – a supersonic VSTOL fighter in planning 45 years ago…
Google is your friend,
http://www.harrier.org.uk/history/history_p1154.htm
Not difficult to believe at all, Mirage IIIV is from the same time period.
If the F-22 cruises at Mach 1.7 and it’s reported as such how is that propaganda? If it cleans up in exercises and it’s reported how is that propaganda? Is showing a chainsaw being used to extract a pilot also propaganda? How about quoting a $335 million dollar pricetag; is that propaganda as well? The F-22 is getting a lot of coverage of ALL types, from those who love it and realize we need it as well as from those who think airplanes can fly for infinite hours and think we should still be flying F-15s because they’re better than 30 year old aircraft flown by incompetent 3rd world airforces.
Propaganda does not have to be a lie. Watch any film or cartoon from the last decade which has a generic warplane in it and see which one gets used.;)
Problems and difficulties tend to be insurmountable.
Truths, on the other hand, tend to be undeniable or irrefutable – unless of course you come from the same school that turned out such worthies as Osama Bin Laden and GW Bush…
1) Chill out and stop nit picking.
2) Insurmountable is a perfectly appropriate word.
Funny tough, while the USAF has been more than villing to share the raptor’s score on all other fighters, still nothing about the EF.
Not really, Raptor is surrounded by one of the most impressive propaganda machines a single project has ever had. The USAF has spent years and years trying to get the Raptor a mythical status in order to keep the project alive and get more of them. Typhoon just does not face that sort of threat to its existance.
The irony is that if AFM had posted a letter/article saying that the MKI had toasted the Typhoon it would now have passed into legend as an insurmountable truth.
Actually now that I think about it the original concept art for the book cover had the WS300A on it. Here ya go. 🙂
What the F-111 should have been in the time frame it should have been!:diablo:
Very vigilantesque………….and that is no bad thing!
You might be interested in the new Secret Projects book on US fighters. Only place I know of with info on the North American WS.300A. It was a fighter-bomber that looked a LOT like the Mig-25- about ten years before the Foxbat.
I am in the process of getting my grubby hands on it! You just gotta love North American, epic epic company!
