Well the Indian navy has ordered a very similar paper tiger in the form of the Mig29KUB.
The M2 and th K are almost completely different aircraft to the original Mig 29.

The Mig29 M2 could be fitted with some of the goodies of the K SUCH AS THRUST VECTORING ENGINESS. I think the mig would offer better future upgrade solutions as the Ks and the M2s could be upgraded under joint projects. Then there is the logistics issue, with the Flankers, the navy birds, and the MRCA operating the same weapon systems and similar spares it would make logistics and spare alot easier. The existing Mig 29 maintenance facilitys could be expanded an modernised and maybe the current fulcrum fleet brought upto mig29smt/ubt standard.
If you read the link Iposted it specifically says that the migs engines are not smokey.

Maybe it is koreas planned replacement for the F16. The F/A 50 is replacing the tiger, so the F16 is up next for replacemen tas it is remaining in service despite the Eagle purchase. South korea wants to build its own fighters.

Smae applies to the Mirage, both are based on airframes from the same time period.

Is it certain that the Mig is being offered with Bars-29?
The mig 29M2 has been flying in prototype form for sometime, see-

    http://www.acig.org/artman/publish/article_293.shtml

It looks very smart and if it is offered with Bars-29 it is going to be a very close call with the Mirage, Obviously Rafale beats them all.

what do people think about the idea of intergrating the Pakistani J7s with the South African R-Darter BVR missile?

Ive just read the army technology page on the Mig 21-2000 and it states that the upgrade gives it BVR capabilitie although it does not specify a BVR missile.

The pakistani J7s use the Grifo F radar in there noses, the radar is in service and on the aircraft, all the J7 variants have radars, go to sinodefence.
Maybe it is just a case that the countrys that have recieved the Mig 21-2000/lancer did not want BVR?

I had read and heard that the IAF bison upgrade allows usage of the AA12 adder. Certainly I have seen pictures of the Mig21-93 with Adders on the inboard pylons and archers on the outboard.
Please everybody do not turn this into an india pakistan thread, Just considering possibilities and practicalitys.

Well the IAI Elta 2032 radar can be intergrated with derby-it has been done with the F16ACE (a great aircraft)-so I suppose it is possible.Using the same logic it may therefore be possible for a country to order J7s fitted with 2032 radar and carrying python 5s and derbys? a fearsome and cheap aircraft? are there any Israeli desighned and built helmet mounted sights for fast jets?

Are you serious? thats an April fool right? you honestly believe that both the PRC and th USA is after India and will do anything to keep her down? In which case why is the US offering advanced weapons to India? India and the US will not go to war and you dont need to go around dealing with the PRC flanker threat. You talk dangerously as if war is major war is merely aan act of furthering the national power base. Indias time is coming in the future, just wait for it. Why would PRC or USA attack India anyway? for fun?

The aircraft ordered under the MRCA procurement will serve for a long time, so quality should be a factor. They will not be replaced instantly by a 5th gen ac. look at the jaguars and Mig27s they will have to go first.
I would go for the Mrage, as an interin India could have the current fleet upgraded to Mirage 2000/9 standard as the UAE is doing.

Why would 159 kills be so inconcievable, considering the Iran Iraq war lasted 8 years and Iran started with 79 tomcats?

If I were in charge of the IAF and IF i had vast sums of money at my disposal, I would select either Rafale (an aircraft at the beggining of its life) or Mirage 2000mk9 and as part of the deal have the current mirage fleet upgraded to mirage 2000mk9, thats my personel opinion but Im sure someone will dissagree.
