Saw this article (or something very similar) a couple of years ago.
Around the same time there was a model (maybe the model in that pic) listed on ebay for a fairly hefty sum.
Nice idea and good looking plane, maybe it’s now back on the Airbus agenda.
Seen on the reader’s comments section of The Telegraph website:
“Anagram – Sean Penn Actor/ A parent’s nonce”
Quite like that, but Mods pls feel free to delete if this oversteps the mark.
Without Googling I can not think of one film sean penn has been in.
I can heartily recommend ‘Team America’ 😉
Does anyone have any idea what these are? They are approximately 5 feet long and the upper one has “crash kit” written on it. It’s possible they may be something to do with rockets, rather than aircraft, but I’ve no idea what they could possibly be, so can’t help narrow it down.
To me, they look like something you would carry crucibles with molten steel in, so it shows how little I know!
If it says ‘crash kit’ – perhaps something to do with hoses – might it be a cradle for a hose??
Never heard of a ‘Whacko’ glider! 🙂
I wouldn’t expect a BBC narrator to know much about a Waco glider but you’d think anyone currently working in a media organisation might have heard of the ‘Waco’ massacre. D’oh well…
The whole notion of keeping an a/c airworthy AND original is a contradiction in terms. As Tony has stated, any and all parts can, and usually are replaced, just as they were when the a/c was in service.
The words ‘Trigger’ and ‘Broom Handles’ spring to mind 🙂

Take a look at these pictures I took whilst visiting the Deutches Technik Museum in Berlin in the late 1990s. This is a model of the Deutches Luftfahrt Sammlung as it appeared in 1943. The model was made by the MLP staff at Krakow.
Fascinating model – I guess most of those aircraft were destroyed?
A couple of questions – how did the Germans get hold of the Stinson Sentinel?
Captured in N. Africa or Italy?
Also, what happened to the PZL 11 and, if it was destroyed, are there any left out there?
Terrific shot of the Ryanair 738 – dynamic with nice lighting.
Thanks EGTC – got my feet wet but count myself fortunate – a lot of businesses and residents have a much bigger job on their hands. One more person found dead in a basement but amazingly that seems to be the extent of the fatalities.
Torrential rain and heavy flooding in Dublin last night. Travel chaos across the city.
Unfortunately, an off duty Gard directing traffic was swept away and killed (in Wicklow).
Weather a lot better this morning but there’s still some disruption (not sure about the airport) and the cleaning up.
Living in Medieval Dublin city centre, I haven’t driven a car regularly in years (you can drag yourself around by your fingernails faster) but remembering my driving days in the UK, 80mph seems about right….
Any car these days will sit at 80mph plus all day without complaint or driver strain (in fact modern cars probably give drivers too great a false sense of security and invincibility) and 80mph or thereabouts is about as far as I’d like to push it on UK motorways given factors like road surface quality, congestion, ‘the other guy’ and length of straight sectors.
I remember doing Liverpool to Glasgow in my mates Mini in 3hr 50 minutes – you really felt you were moving in those things 😀

BA did have a B747 classic in BOAC livery for a very very very short time in the late 90’s I believe.
I’d love to see a B777 in BOAC livery. An A320 in BEA livery with red wings would also look good I think.
or just bring back the landor livery!
Thanks for the info EGTC – any pics extant of that Jumbo – I never saw it…
EDIT…
d’oh – google is your friend… here it is…
http://www.airliners.net/photo/0065702/M/
A half-arsed effort by the looks of it…
What would have been much more interesting would have been a 757 in BEA colours or an A320 in Imperial colours or a 777 in BOAC colours.:)
Nice idea but can’t see it happening – pretty sure political correctness would forestall the use of the word ‘Imperial’ on any BA plane and technically (or administratively or whatever) BEA and BOAC were different entities to BA and what airline would fly a plane about that didn’t display to the world their current incarnation? (all other retro schemes dispaly the current name of the airline)
I think any BA plane in BEA/BOAC colours would, quite literally & figuratively, go over the heads of most of their punters…
For my part – I liked Negus – it’s my era. Bring back Negus!
(and the speedbird!)
Or how about a T7 in BOAC wartime camo – I’d pay extra for that! 😮
