Zukhorskiy?!
Zhukovsky? 😉
No PAK-FA display at MAKS > http://www.flightglobal.com/blogs/the-dewline/2011/05/f-15e-somehow-steals-moscow-ai.html 😡
F-15E the highlight? I’d expect people to be far more interested to see something ridiculous from the Su-35.
I hope this was a late night drunk thread…
With the Su-35 coming online, getting that level of avionics into the Su-33 is not something China is capable of.
I’d second that. While no one knows how much RCS reduction the Su-35S received, it’s probably reasonable to assume that the F-35 is way stealthier than the Su. Unless the Flanker has some ridiculously powerful radar or jammer, in most engagement conditions, the F-35 will the first shot. Just my observation
Get the first shot and let the Flanker find it immediately on RWR/ESM?
Great news. Now to keep the Su-34 production increasing, and keep the older Flankers and Foxhounds upgraded to a solid level.
The only reason you would need anything stealthy over there is to do things you shouldn’t be doing…
Local basing and cheaper to operate than the larger Su-3x series, with more than enough firepower to deal with Saakashvillis 🙂
The Mig-35 would be a good contender to keep schmucks like Saakashvilli away…
Project 949A
“Oscar-II”
What a surprise – the late 1980’s and 1990’s jet beat the 1970’s designs…
The US should have sold the F-22 and Russia the Mig 1.42 😎
Intercepting interceptors? 😎
Why the heck are you guys calling this thing the Black Eagle anyway?
Being black does not cut it for this name 😎
Summarizing:
– RS-20 follow-on will be lighter but not less lethal.
– It may carry false warheads.
– Currents silos will be ultra-hardened (passive defenses).
– Point ABM defenses will protect them (active defenses).
– Number of nukes necessary to disable them will rise from 2 to 4-6.It sounds impressive and technically affordable, although it doesn’t sounds cheap. Those requirements are explained in face a NATO encirclement strategy with ABM defenses and PGMs. In the end, it is obvious that Russian planners doesn’t believe in the reset button and marketing like that.
It’s clearly best to plan for the worst. No one knows what idiots will take power in other parts of the world.
More Mi-24Vs have been lost to Taliban ground fire in Afghanistan in the last 10 years, compared to Apache losses. The Polish AF have lost 3 HINDs altogether in Afghanistan to all causes, compared to 10 AH-64 losses. The greatest negative effect to Mi-24 survivability is probably its 12.7 mm rotary gun, which forces the Mi-24V to get in close to the enemy (and the enemys’ return fire). I think the Americans made the same mistake with the 7.62 mm minigun on its Cobras during the Vietnam war.
Stand-off attack ability is probably the method of surviving light ground fire – All gunships need a minimum of 20 mm gun, along with the necessary targeting and aiming equipment.
For the USSR it was the Stinger difference, in case you forget.
If the Talibs got Iglas or Stingers, Coalition rotorcraft are big time screwed.
Granat and Klub are not comparable TR.
For land-attack the Granat would be great, but what about reasonable ranged anti-shipping?
Hence why I asked about Klub on Akula.
So multiple versions of Klub?
What’s the rumor on Akulas being able to use Klubs?
