What did you guys expect? Afterall the PAK-FA is a heavily modified Flanker. Theres only so much Sukhoi can do with it.

I agree.. I mean Lockheed did their best with the transmogrification of the F-14 into the Raptor. Sometimes life is just like.. so hard, and confusing, and all. 😮

Come now, they have a grand total of three Su-35’s a few dozen Su-34’s (after 12 years) and handful of slightly upgraded flankers (With very few pilots to fly them i should add). None of this is in anyway impressive. And what does America have to do with it. Different country altogther it is.

Hey chief, on what planet was there any significant budgeted money for the Su-34 before 2010? (which just started production .. and was budgeted.. now).

As for the carrier comment, I am certain that no Russian official would be quoted for “we are building 6 carriers now” .. most comments point to 2016 or even 2018+ .. and take this to the Navy section.

    Nonsense.

Have you been absent recently from world news? The US defense budget is getting a serious shave. For good.

not sure what the point of your posts are. Its a new scheme thats being adopted, standing in contrast to some of the earlier statements made by fanboys in the past.

it does not mean all aircraft are using it, it just means that there’s a push going towards it

also see no point in your criticism of posting pictures. its a RuAF thread duh.

Sorry, sparky, but.. seeing several units of single-color aircraft does not translate to “push” towards anything.

Fencer units have always been grey. So have the bomber forces.

You can expect to see things in different patterns. What a surprise.

SM figure is more or less known.

Why don’t you tell us then?

relax your undies. very easy for an outsider to whine about military acquisitions.. but reality is.. the Russian armed forces were static for over a decade, lots of things need upgrading, lots of new programs, everyone needs something.

unless you want Russia to go broke from defense spending like the US and Soviet Union, be grateful that they’re at least making some upgrades.

How much do you reckon it costs to upgrade a MiG-31? $10 million?

Over an 8-year period, do you think that 60 or 120 or even 180 upgrades will make Russia go bankrupt? $600 million, $1.2 or $1.8 billion isn’t exactly un-doable. Upgrading 180 airframes would cost an extra $150 million/year… less than .01% of the military budget.

~7-8 upgrades per year is a complete joke. What sort of low-priority project is this? Where are these upgrades even happening?

    60 MiG-31 upgrades by 2020 is a pretty pathetic rate. 😡

So they took a 5th-gen fighter, pancaked it, and called it a 6th gen ‘concept’ because it looks flatter and therefore supposedly more stealthy and futuristic?

    Fantastic. 😎

They are really streamlining those teardrop hulls more and more.

That pic shows it best.. 🙂
