A little odd as one of the main advantages to having work done in NZ is the (currently, at least!) favourable exchange rate. With a project of this magnitude these savings alone will be considerable. Additionally, the guys out there know the Mossie as a type inside out –
while there are great rebuild companies within the UK none will have this hands on experience with the type. Certification seems to be a little of a red herring – as long as the materials and processes paperwork stands up to the standards required by the CAA over here there shouldn’t be any issue with the work being done anywhere outside the UK – as long as CAA are involved I wouldn’t have seen them having any issues, particularly given the track-record of the engineering facilities concerned. A strange move given the magnitude of the project and as has been proved before NZ is by far and away the path of least resistance when it comes to putting a Mossie in the air.
We’ve been fortunate to track down a set of these static ports (in the USA). There are a couple of other parts that are needed, as follows:
Type P.11 Compass and the appropriate corrector
Boost Gauge Mk 3 (-4/+8) 6A/1221
RPM Gauge, Smiths Mk4, 6A/1299
Mk 14 or Mk 19 (6A/5040) Altimeters (2 off)
1 off coaming that goes across the top of the instrument panel
If anyone has or knows of any that are available, or any other Provost parts for that matter, please drop me a line. Thank you.
Hi Kin, Andrew is on my list of people to hook up with over the next few weeks. I had some T-6 parts off him a while ago and am sure he’ll have some PP parts we can use.
An additional piece I believe we need is an oil tank. We have a static one to trade. Anyone? Thank you.
Looking for any Piston Provost parts. Who has something available?
Hi David, yes, not just fuselage. Not much we can use however. A long way to ship it when there isn’t much we can use there, but a good thought.
Thanks Sonderman, I don’t believe those were the guys, unless you know differently? Thank you.
Until I read the body your post, from its title I assumed someone was about to chop up an Avro Avian in Germany and use parts for a table. I will now go back to sleep.
No, relax. Although one could have some photoshop fun and cause sleepless nights and bouts of heart failure. No, sticking keys and of course once posted I don’t believe it’s possible to change the title, which should have read “Aviation Parts Furniture in Germany”.
Hi Tim, could you pm me about the rocker cover please. I’m in need of a pair for my Merlin 500. Thank you
PT-19
I spotted a yellow and blue PT-19 (I think) near Bury St. Edmunds on Sunday evening. He looked to be cruising along at quite low level.
