WJ244. I like the way you refer to your Rochdale as a kit cart. I think they look a bit better than that. Nice cars though. Always thought they could give an Elite a run for it’s money.

I believe Stephen Grey commutes in a Swiss-registered PC-12. If I was clever I would post a picture of it taken at Duxford (but I’m not).

My father went ashore on D-Day plus 2 as part of a Mulberry team and he always said the most frightening part was going down the rope ladder on to the landing craft. Two of his men panicked and fell between the two ships. Only one survived unfortunately but the shots of the troops on the ladders brought it home to me.
From an aviation point of view the brief long shot of 10 Ju-52s(?) on the horizon near Stalingrad was impressive.

Those were the days when a chap wore a collar and tie to go aviating. How things have changed.

Do you have to re-inhibit the engines after these ground runs? Isn’t there a danger of internal corrosion if you don’t? Another long term problem will be the provision of Avgas 4 or 5 years down the line. The tree-huggers are not keen on it now and I can’t see that getting better any time soon.

There used to be a Venom parked at Embakasi airport outside Nairobi back in the 70s. I was never brave enough to face the “askaris” armed with some heavy artillery that used to guard the nearby transport depot. I wonder if it’s still there.

Typically well balanced Ozzie viewpoint from JDK in that he seems to have chips on both shoulders. There can be no doubt that free entrance has had a major impact on the RAF Museum at Hendon. If major manufacturers have left Formula One and B Ae have put a lot of money in to Duxford what relevant major corporate sponsor would take on Hendon?
I don’t know the figures but I bet heating and the infamous lighting costs are not far short of £200K and what staff they have must come in at around £500K. Add the incidentals and I bet it costs not much short of £1 million per annum to run the place. That’s a lot of car auctions.

Just to put it in to perspective I went to see Blackpool (Sea, sea, seasiders) play Crystal Palace in a Championship match earlier in the year and it was £26 for 90 minutes “entertainment” (We lost 4-1……dodgy ref). Also went to see Arsenal play Liege and that was nearer £60, so £30 for the unique spectacle of Legends doesn’t seem too bad.

Agreed it does seem like a waste of a C150. G-INFO gives the C of A expiry as 8/12/2004 but a subsequent C of A being processed at 10/11/2009. It could be that the owner had a temporary cashflow problem and is now rejuvenating it.

As I understand it, the land on which the runway is based has been bought and is secure for the medium future, so Classic Wings pleasure flying should continue. If other owners pull out, the airfield is still going to be there and there is no reason why the IWM could not bring in the airshow acts as normal, subject to the usual fire and health requirements. I don’t speak with any authority but I’m just going on what I’ve heard.

As I said in my thread which you closed on “General Aviation” which is probably where this one should be.

Slight thread drift but one for our Canadian chums. A Firefly was retrieved from Ethiopia and was restored in Canada but subsequently damaged in a ground accident I believe. Any news of the current status?

I have a theory that the roof is an aerofoil shape and when the wind is in a SSW direction the airflow over the top of the roof acts like a wing and generates lift. Result is the departure of roof panels due to the hold down mechanism not being designed for loads in that direction. My guess at a solution would be a series for baffles to break up the airflow and reduce the lift.
