Excellent video scotavia, thanks for posting. The break to the left at 4:58 over the camera ship is stunning.
I think it’s Walney, not Thorney Island. Pretty much closed for use by B Ae in conjunction with the shipyards at Barrow.
Sounds terrific. What engine does he use?
There are people on here who would pick fault with footage actually taken on the beach at the time. Clarkejw has got it just about right and I think the film condenses what could have been 300,000 individual stories in to a manageable whole.
It was G-AKIN on route to the Moth fly-in at Old Warden. It’s based at Sywell.
There appear to have been two crashes in my village, Ashwell, during WW2. Talking to the remaining locals who saw them, suggest different locations but perhaps that might provide a starting point. There was also the B-17 crash near Letchworth. The local history museum have some details on this one.
5 stars in the “I”, the cut price Independent.
Slight thread drift here but back in the late 50s there was a scrapyard round the back of Squires Gate (Blackpool) airport on what I seem to remember was called Marton Moss. (Scotavia might know?) Anyway somehow or other I acquired the data plates off 3 Hurricane fuselages which were lying there. I subsequently passed these on to a chum from Preston but I wonder if anybody remembers the yard and what became of it?
Thanks Yak. Let’s hope the CAA clarify the rules as soon as possible.
Is the “Admiral’s Barge” Hunter flying again?
Possibly but I”d be interested to hear more about an ” approved” alternative source.
Won’t the lack of in-date ejector seat cartridges cause problems? I believe Martin- Baker have withdrawn support.
Thanks FB. As you say not a good thing to do.
Presumably the radiator cowlings take a hit on a landing like this. Are they “designed” to take the load or if not where do the loads get transmitted to?
Slightly disagree Trolly as the “meatbombers” at Headcorn do the same thing. It’s flipping alarming whizzing down “final” with a parachute alongside!
