I hope the parachutist at 0.08 saw him coming!
There was a Hornet Moth at Aero Expo at Wycombe and was getting ready to depart around that time..
I’m only guessing but I think the problem with numbers at Stow Maries might be the revised rules post Shoreham, which are more restrictive on traffic movements near the site. Certainly at Duxford if the M11 and A505 come to a stop, so does the airshow. In any case a quick phonecall prior to the show at Stow Maries would get you the answer as to whether tickets are available.
Snap
If the chap in the Tower agrees, the non-commercial flights can take off in to wind, not necessarily using the runway. As the wind was Southerly yesterday I guess that’s what’s happening here.
I’m afraid I don’t know if there have been any improvements. It was just a quick call on 01245-329358 to see what the start time was due to be.
Just phoned to enquire about the car parks and it’s sold out so the problem doesn’t arise. Good for them, they probably need the revenue.
That is tough but I know the feeling as my Airtourer, after 31 years of economical flying, is “fighting back”. Coupled with the requirement for 8.33 radio and Mode S transponder it does make you wonder if it’s worth it. WRT your aircraft would it be worth trying for an EASA permit? That god-forsaken outfit ought to be able to help out with an aircraft from the “Fatherland”. BTW I don’t think the Hunters are flying again just yet so that might save you some money
Excellent photography on the Ohka but where does it fit in with the collection? Is it to be displayed at Duxford or elsewhere in the IWM empire?
A quick look in Peter Lewis’ book “British Racing and Record Breaking Aircraft” has a Hornet F3, PX305, flying from Gibraltar to Bovingdon on September 19 1949 in 2hrs 31min 36 sec at an average speed of 435.871 mph to set a Class C1 record. That’s pretty fast so the Hornet could have made a decent racer.
At a stretch, Spartan Air Services (?) used some Mosquitos for aerial survey work. Not passenger business but it was business.
That jackdaw (?) in the first picture looks as though it’s going faster than the Tiger Moth judging by the blurring! Nice pictures though.
See my previous post#11
Might have had a different outcome if the debris had got stuck in the elevator. Pretty long takeoff run anyway.
Thanks Howard. I hope it stays in the UK as it must be the oldest airworthy jet in the UK now the Sabre and MeteorT7 have gone to the USA.
